Analysis: Why Are Ron Paul 2008 Campaign Supporters Passionate About Their Candidate?

C.M. Paulson
Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul has been all over the internet lately (Ron Paul Gains Popularity on the Internet), with supporters creating their own blogs and websites to further Dr. Paul's cause.

While the mainstream media has virtually ignored Dr. Paul's candidacy, Ron Paul discussions abound on the internet. Some pundits, such as Rush Limbaugh, are questioning whether Ron Paul's support is real (Is Ron Paul Internet Buzz Real or Spam?), and are dismissing his chances at becoming the next president of the United States.

His continued online support could make these pundits begin to think twice about their statements. Ron Paul continues to be one of the most popular online search terms and his supporters are ardently backing and seeking additional information about their candidate.

So, why are Ron Paul backers so passionate about their candidate? From the internet discussions that I have seen, there are some common themes on why supporters of Dr. Paul are so devoted to their candidate, which include:

A belief that Ron Paul is more honest than other candidates: MI for Ron Paul sums it up like this: "I had never heard of Ron Paul until May 9 of this year, but I can tell you this honestly. If other people are like me, and are starting for some common sense and integrity from someone running for office, then they're likely doing the same thing I'm doing - which is follow Congressman Paul's campaign closely, and legitimately help it along any honest way I can. I'm passionate about what Ron Paul is saying ... about immigration, the trashing of our Constitution, taxes, privacy, the National ID card, our foreign policy ... this guy doesn't need anyone to 'write" sound bites for him. He's a seasoned veteran at this game, a doctor to boot, that's obviously used to dealing with work under pressure."

Extreme dissatisfaction regarding the state of the nation: Dianna had the following comments regarding Ron Paul: "For the sake of the nation, our future foreign reputation, our domestic livelihood - let's hope he wins. There hasn't been any laws or policies enacted for the US working class since Bush was illegally elected to office. They've all been for corporations and only their upper echelon."

Frustration of current Ron Paul mainstream media coverage (as detailed in Ron Paul Still Ignored By Sunday Newspapers, Mainstream Media): Loretta Kohanes of Oregon wrote the following to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "I have a hard time believing Congressman Ron Paul has only 1 percent of the voters. It sure does not appear that way on the Internet. I humbly request airtime and news articles that reflect the HIGH marks he has received in the presidential debates. He is an important candidate and too little airtime has been given to this honest and important man. The Internet is all abuzz. ... Shouldn't television & newspapers be the same?"

If Dr. Ron Paul is not elected President of this Country 2008 , it is either because the mainstream media is on the take to the point of the American people not knowing he is not only a running ,( but, I believe going to win) candidate. (2)The American people are totally out of their minds, or (3) from a reflexion on resent years, apparently Mr. Paul is over qualified for the job, if Ron Paul is not elected in 2008 it will be sad day for this country. Join the revolution, and change this country for the better.

In my seventies now, being politically aware for more than forty years, I never expected to be able to vote for a man that respects the Constitution and votes for it every single time. If not the rule of the law of our land, what rule should a leader follow? At last a man of courage. He is America's Braveheart.

Americans SAY they want honesty and integrity, but it isn't true. Its up to mainstream media to tell Americans what they REALLY want, and that's another complete idiot in the White House. Obviously, Giuliani is the only choice. Hey, 30% of Americans still think Bush is doing a heckuva job, keep up the good work, accomplishing those missions. Americans are addicted to fear and being controlled by their betters - politicians, oil companies, big business, war machine. Ron Paul may be the only way America can turn itself around, thus insuring that he has absolutely no chance. How unfortunate.

That is the kind of our money that the guys in DC so flippantly spend. The gov't doesn't have any money of its own. It doesn't make anything. It takes from us and borrows and prints. And WE have to pay it back.
Ron Paul represents the only candidate for the people. He would end the income tax, eliminate government spending, bring the troops home, return us to hard money, save our savings, and GIVE US LIBERTY. I suppose Patrick Henry would be willing to die for Ron Paul. How far are the rest of us willing to go? I want my liberty back! Its funny, I never understood why those founders were so passionate when I was in grade school. Now I get it.
Go Ron. Keep spreading the message of liberty and free markets. Save us from ourselves.

This country is in trouble. We are headed for hyper-inflation if we don't return to sound money. The inflation tax (printing money) is taking money out of the pocket of the average American and putting it into the hands of the very few. The Iraq war has cost us at least one trillion dollars. Do you know how much money a trillion dollars is? It is too big to really understand, so try this: if you started in the year 1 AD (you know, 2000 years ago) and burned one million dollars EVERY DAY it would take you over 700 years FROM TODAY to spend a trillion dollars.
I suppo
