Analyzing Teachers' Salaries Across the Country

Kurt Simonsen
Teacherportal.com recently released the findings of a study that analyzed the salaries of teachers across the United States. The analysis, broken down into the four categories of starting salaries, average salaries, ten-year increase percentages, and salary comfort index, placed state against state. The findings, when examined closely, are startling to say the least, with one particular state's teachers starting at a miniscule $24,872 per year and another state with its average pre-tax teacher salary coming in at $34,709. Compare that to the leading state's beginning salary of $39,259 and the leading state with the highest average salary of $59,825. In all, the discrepancies are large and serve for an interesting investigation.
