And Justice for All; Not

What is JUSTICE? Is there really such a thing? In the past two years I have been personally involved in two cases and have watched or read about countless others, put before our Nations court system. What I came away with was the very questions I just asked. The Bible says that man will appoint judges to enforce the laws. But the days of Solomon are long gone. Our judicial system has become as corrupt as our political system. The truth is a mute point, best left unheard. Because trust me, no court wants to hear it, that is if you ever get to a court. There is this new way of settling out of court called mediation.

Mediation is where both sides, in conflict come together with a third party, who has no prior knowledge or interest in the case to help the parties reach an agreement without having to go to trial. The idea is to help free up the courts for more important cases that cannot be settled with out a trial. One would think this was a good idea. The last mediation that I attended, the Mediator set things straight up. He explained that in his experience neither party ever walked away happy, because neither side feels they get what they want. In both mediations that I have personal knowledge of, there was a victim.

And in both cases the mediator was quite happy to tell you that being a victim is of no importance, but settling out of court is. The mediator didn't want to hear why or what. His only interest was how this needed to be settled, how quickly we could do this. Pretty much the way it went with the first mediation I went to. Except in that one, first the victim was told that you have to put your personal feelings aside and think of what is best for everyone.

I came away from both cases asking, "WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?" How can our judicial system that is designed to protect the innocent have gone so awry? What happened to justice? I have always obeyed the law, believe that we should obey the laws and support our law makers. I have believed in God and Country. In the past two years I have watched and listened. What I have seen and heard has made me have doubts about both. I came away from this last one wondering what I had done so wrong that God would abandon me and what had gone wrong with this country. I would like to say that I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I can't. All you have to do is pick up a newspaper or watch the news, listen to the radio or look online to see the injustice in this Country. A lyric from a song in a movie comes to mind, "Dance a little side step". That seems to be the standard for dealing out justice. Dance all around the truth, but never let it be heard or seen. To do so would mean that someone might have to actually do the jobs that they are elected to do and earn their pay.

Justice has always been portrayed as a Lady. With scales to weigh the evidence put before her and a blindfold so that she would have to hear the truth. But Justice has become a whore, tilting her scales to the highest bidder. But I suppose one could say that she has simply used her God given right as a woman, to change her mind. To change from the Lady that so many of us believed in and admired, to a whore that chooses her justice by the amount of money you can spend on her.

Don't think that I am angry about this situation. I gave up on the idea of anger solving anything when the phrase "He went postal" meant you could kill a bunch of people and get by with it cause your job had driven you mad. Nobody ever thought that you might have been that way before and this was just the point that pushed you over the edge. Of course not, that would be a truth and we know you can't tell that. But then why should anyone do the right thing anymore or obey the laws? The ones making the laws are usually the ones planning on breaking one or two. And jail? What threat is that? Being put in jail is no big deal. You can get a college degree, work out in a private gym, watch cable or satellite T.V., receive free medical, and all at the taxpayer's expense. No I am not angry, I am disappointed. I was raised to believe that there was good and justice would prevail. I'm disappointed to see a belief and a dream of one nation under God, for the People, by the People, with Justice and Liberty for all die.
