And That’s the Truth

Steve Helmer

There was once a time when I thought Sunsets were the most beautiful things on Earth

The way they set the sky on fire was a miracle that ranked right up there with giving birth.

But, since I met you, their beauty is no longer worthwhile

Because it will never compare to the beauty of your smile.

And that's the truth.

When I was younger, chocolate was a thing I would crave

In every shape and form, it was something that enslaved.

But, since I met you, it doesn't give as much bliss

Because it tastes kind of bitter when compared to your sweet kiss.

And that's the truth.

I used to hate listening to love songs and watching romantic movies

I never understood them and they just never seemed to move me.

But since I met you, they now make more sense than they would

Because being with you is like being in a romantic film from Hollywood

And that's the truth.

I was never the kind of man to give anything away.

What was mine; was mine and I liked it that way.

But, since I met you, I no longer have that much control

Because I want to give you everything, including my heart and my soul.

And that's the truth.

Many years ago, I promised to love you to the end of time

Even though I knew keeping that promise would be an uphill climb.

But since that time, I have never strayed; not now and not ever

Because deep down I still believe I will love you forever.

And that's the truth.
