And Then it Became Cloudy

They came like twinkling lights
On the edges of my view,
I could trace them with my finger,
But one blink, and they were gone.

The next time, their visit was longer-
The ghostly trail of falling stars,
Shimmering and swooping sunbursts
Across a vast, beautiful sky.

The mystery was alluring,
The truth close enough to touch.
As time went on, the dazzle faded,
Slowly at first, then faster than you can imagine.

The sun disappeared like a magic trick,
The wind picked up and rolled,
And then it became cloudy.

The edges softened first,
Details melted away,
Shapes and colors merged-

My heart sank.
I knew it was happening now,
Beauty fading, trying to memorize it all.

Before long, the rain began to fall,
Trickles down my face,
Lightning in my mind,
Harder and harder, it pelted me.

My eyes were wide open now,
But all I could see was darkness,
And then night fell.
