And I Thought Marcus was the Bad Vick Brother

Wordsleuth
What is happening with professional football these days? I fear that all the perks that star athletes have gotten, starting in high school, over the past decade are finally showing their deteriorating influence. .

These players don't have to take responsibility for their actions when they are growing up and now we expect them to know right from wrong when the are out on their own?

The Michael Vick case is one of the most disturbing I have seen. Sure Pacman Jones has been in a lot of trouble, and some of his trouble involves guns and shootings, and sure Tank Johnson loves his guns, but I think injuring and executing defenseless animals over a long period of time is even worse.

I hope, for Michael Vick's sake, that Vick is not lying and I hope he knew nothing about the dog fighting operation taking place on his property. However, I do find it hard to believe that he knew nothing.

Vick, also known as Ookie in the dog-fighting world, is accused of having been consulted about a dog's condition, shortly before he was executed. He also allegedly gave $23,000 to the owner of two winning dogs after his dogs had lost among other accusations.

For years we have been told that Marcus Vick was the bad Vick brother. He repeatedly got in trouble at Virginia Tech, enough so that they kicked him off the team, and believe me it takes a lot to kick the brother of the schools most famous player and a player with such promise off the team.

Marcus has given alcohol to underage girls, he has made inappropriate gestures to fans and he is even accused of pulling a gun on some kids in Hampton, Virginia, but none of that holds a candle to being a known participant in a complex dog fighting operation.

The sad part is that the dog fighting does not seem to be a spur of the moment, did it once kind of thing. According to the indictment this operation was really honed over a long period of time.

My biggest problem is that Michael Vick should know better than to be involved in this kind of thing. His brother's problems, after growing up in the shadow of his brother, can at least be marginally understood, but Michael Vick just did a great job at fooling everyone all along as this dog fighting has been allegedly going on since 2001.

We all know that Michael Vick will probably never serve any time for these charges and that he will probably not face a suspension from the league, because he is one of the most famous athletes in America.

No matter if he knew about the dog fighting or not, and I hope that he didn't, the fact that he does not know what is happening on his own property is sad. More than anything I feel bad for all of the dogs that have been injured or killed on Vick's property and someone needs to be held accountable.

I do not mean to convict Michael Vick in this article. I do not know if he is guilty of openly running or participating in this dog fighting operation, but it is obvious that he facilitated its running by allowing his property to be used by people that shouldn't have been using it.

Really enjoyed your article. I agree with your feelings on the matter. What a waste of talent within a family. It is unreal how people will self implode to keep their street cred.
