And the Title Goes To... Senator Biden

The die is cast. At least that is how the old saying goes. Senator Obama has made his Vice Presidential choice and as the line has gone, he continues to lead us in an interesting direction. On Thursday, Senator Biden announced in an unrelated press conference that, "he was not the man." He told the nation that he was not the Vice Presidential pick for the Democratic Party. However, a leak by an undisclosed Obama campaign official finally let the proverbial cat out of the bag and informed those of us waiting on the edges of our seats of Senators Obama's choice-one Senator Biden of Delaware.

Senator Biden is a Beltway professional and may add the political clout that the Obama campaign needs. However, there are a few tenets to the Biden choice that may not bode well for the Democratic Party. First, while still a presidential candidate, Senator Biden accused Senator Obama "is not ready to be president" because his foreign policy record was not strong enough. Okay, let's give Mr. Biden a break and chalk the comment up to the heat of a presidential election. But, if Mr. Biden's does in fact believe his Commander and Chief-to-be is drastically weak on foreign policy then Mr. Biden is an excellent choice. Mr. Biden chaired the Foreign Relations Committee. However, where the choice could prove dramatically detrimental to the dems are in the liberal leanings of Mr. Biden.

Senator Obama needed to extend an olive branch to moderate, centrist, democrats and he did not succeed by choosing Senator Biden. Delaware is a bastion of liberal thought and Mr. Biden has been the venerable Senator from Delaware for the last 30 years-not exactly, the message of "Change" the Obama camp has touted over the last two years. His voting record is decidedly left of center, loves to talk and steal the limelight, a prodigious pork spender for his Delaware constituents, and Senator Obama may have chosen the Democratic version of Dan Quayle.

Senator Obama has made his move. Now it is the McCain Camp's turn. However, some of the stress maybe off Senator McCain to chose a more 'liberal' running mate to steal votes from the Democratic Party and Independent middle. The Democratic Party nomination has moved so far left a little right may not hurt the Republicans. Once again, the Democrats have created a challenge for themselves. The next three months should prove very interesting. Stay tuned.
