And I was Lost

Steven West
It was a dark, moonless night.

Mosquitoes silently flew over my head.

Crickets started making loud, continuous sounds.

A frog croaked in the distance.

And I was lost.

Where am I?

What am I doing here?

Have I lost my mind?

A squirrel scampered up a tree.

An old hooted close by.

A wolf howled loudly enough to give me the shakes.

And I was lost.

How did I get here?

Where can I go?

Who will find me?

My mind was dense with clouds.

The light in my head dimmed.

I couldn't remember my name.

And I was lost.

No more tomorrows.

No more yesterdays.

Just a present without hope.

And I was lost.
