Cuomo is age 53. He started working in politics close to 30 years ago when involved in his father's campaign for governor. He has the political savvy needed to make big changes.
Quinnipiac Poll Show Andrew Cuomo in Lead for Governor
The Wall Street Journal, on September 1, 2010, reported that the Quinnipiac poll details that Andrew Cuomo had a large lead on his Republican rivals. Cuomo "leads Rick Lazio 57% to 25% and Carl Paladino 60% to 23%."
It looks like the people of New York State want Cuomo to win this election. What will November bring to Albany? Only time will tell!
Will Budget Cuts Work?
Andrew Cuomo vows to avoid tax increases. Thus he would have to make significant budget cuts to close the state budget deficit. Will the voters approve of that strategy? Or will they think it is doomed to fail?
Housing Issues
Andrew Cuomo worked as the federal housing secretary with President Bill Clinton. He has made housing issues a priority in his career. He has worked to make home loans equally available to all via fighting for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to take on more loans for minority customers.
Tough on Wall Street
Mr. Cuomo has been aggressive in his pursuit to ensure the titans of Wall Street are not fleecing investors. In his role as attorney general, Cuomo sued UBS over securities fraud. He also got a $60 billion agreement for "Citigroup, JP Morgan, Wachovia, Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs and other companies to reimburse investors," notes the NY Times.
Fixing the Economy of New YorkState
New York State has lingered in a depressed financial state for some time now. Cuomo has a gargantuan task in front of him to solve this problem. With his long experience in politics it is likely he will bring some creative solutions to the table.
Will the Teacher Union Endorse Cuomo?
Usually the Democratic nominee is a sure thing for an endorsement by the teacher union. However, Cuomo has talked about support for charter schools. This has alienated the teacher union. Will the teacher union endorse Cuomo?
Education
The educational system in New York State is in need of improvement. Currently the state pays two-thirds more on each student than other states. However, New York State is ranked 40th for the graduation rate of its students.
Cuomo has to find a way to boost graduation rates throughout the state. Also, standardized test scores also need improvement, particularly in the urban schools in New York City.
Andrew Cuomo & Gay Rights
Some gay rights groups feel Andrew Cuomo has been too silent in his support of gay rights. However, Cuomo has clearly stated since he opened up his run for governor that he is in favor of same-sex marriage.
A friend of Mr. Cuomo's, Charles Myers, told the New York Times that for Mr. Cuomo "it's deeply upsetting that friends of his don't have the same rights as he does." Andrew Cuomo has said that making gay marriage legal is "a priority for me," notes the NY Times.

Good update.
Very informative and very interesting!
Great report, thanks Julia!
Cuomo at least seems competent, which will be a nice change from Paterson.
Whether he can really fix Albany - well, that's a labor of Hercules. But maybe he can make a start.
It'll be interesting to see how far he goes without the backing of the teachers' union. He may be politically savvy enough to mend fences.
