Android Phones: The Best of the Best

Google's Android OS took the mobile phone market by storm. Once the operating system from the Internet giant landed in the hands of its first users, it was full steam ahead. Competing against the likes of Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and the iPhone, the Android hit the streets running not only as a popular and full featured OS, but also with an ever growing app store, and a wealth of development tools and support behind it. Now, with tech savvy consumers, app developers, and even casual consumers interested in joined the android bandwagon, which phone is the right choice?

There are certainly an overwhelming number of mobile phones to choose from on the market, and Android based mobile phones make up a fair percentage of those available. Based on a combination of user voting, and professional review, here are the current op 5.

HTC and Motorola appear in a tie and nearly take up the entire top five slots, with two entries a piece.

It's no surprise that the HTC EVO 4G appears on almost any and every Android phone list. Not only is the EVO Sprints flagship and forerunner for 4G network technology, but it's also a phone that is more powerful than most computers were just a short time ago. Sporting a 1 GHz CPU, plenty of on board ROM/RAM, a Micro SD slot for expansion, HD video support, and dual cameras, one with an astounding 8 MP (megapixel) resolution; the EVO delivers a double punch to consumers - a very powerful and full featured phone on a cutting edge network. One of the EVO's additional selling points: using it as a shared Internet router with multiple devices over 4G.

Another very capable and full featured phone from HTC is the HTC Droid Incredible. Although this phone isn't riding the waves of 4G, it still performs quite well and arrives with similar features as the EVO. The Snapdragon CPU is included, and although there are not dual cameras on-board - a single 8 MP camera is available for recording every important moment at high resolution.

Motorola, a veteran in the mobile phone industry delivers two Android phones listed as top 5 contenders. Possibly responsible for spreading the Android OS to the masses, the Droid series of phones from Motorola certainly do not take a back seat to any other Android based phone. Both the Droid, and its newest sibling, the Droid X provide mobile phone users with cutting edge features. While the Droid is maintains a size comparable to a traditional sized smartphone and features a slide-out keyboard, the Droid X gives users the 4.3 inch screen and 8 MP camera setup found on the HTC phones. The Droid X also comes with a spacious 8 GB of storage space built-in and yet still features a micro SD slot for expansion.

So what phone rounds out the top 5? As every top 5 list isn't the same, there are two phones (each pulled from a separate top 5 list) to consider. Google's own Nexus One has received great hardware reviews, although apparent widespread use from the variety of carries is reportedly possible due to the lack of sales.

Like the others, Samsung is no stranger to the mobile phone market. Quite possibly in position and ready to over throw any other top of the list phones, the new Samsung Epic 4G has arrived. The Epic 4G could be considered a variant of the Galaxy S, and features a 1 GHz Hummingbird CPU. Notably, it also includes a newer AMOLED display lather than standard LCD which is common on most phones. This technology offers a vibrant display with reduced power consumption.
