Andy Pettitte Retirement '" and 5 Reasons He Will Not Make the Hall of Fame

Alfonso Coley
There are several reliable resources in the MLB sporting community proclaim that the Professional Baseball Hall of Fame has become somewhat watered down in relation to how many MLB players have been inducted into the Hall of Fame during the past ten years.

Even though Andy Pettitte had a consistent career as a major league pitcher, by way of him retiring at 38, may place his Hall of Fame ballot in jeopardy. Major League Baseball has been a sport based on longevity, and Andy Pettitte win/loss scenario may put a strain on the Hall of Fame Committees decision making relating to why he may never get into the Hall of Fame.

Reason #1: 16 seasons in the majors may not be enough for Andy Pettitte to be enshrined into Cooperstown. The majority of Hall of Fame pitchers played in the majors at least 19 years or more. Andy Pettitte post season victories are very impressive, but this alone may not be enough to place him in that elite status.

Reason #2: Andy Pettitte was not a dominating pitcher of his era; his 240 wins/138 loses do not match many Hall of Fame pitchers who played past their prime in order to snag that 300 win.

Reason #3: Even though Andy Pettitte ranks third behind Yankee greats Red Ruffing and Whitey Ford; the Hall of Fame committee and sporting community will ponder on the pros and cons why Pettitte should not be elected into Cooperstown.

Reason #4: Andy Pettitte ranks 13th among left-handed pitchers in the wins category. Andy Pettitte has never won a Cy-Young award, and in my estimation it hampers any chances of him becoming a Hall of Fame inductee.

Reason #5: Andy Pettitte admitted using the HGH steroid by-product throughout his playing career. It is not definite on how many years he used the human-growth hormone, but without a doubt it has wounded his chances on becoming a future Pro Baseball Hall of Fame inductee.

Well, L B #5 may indeed keep Andy Petitte out of the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame, in the end, it will be up to the sports writers who will decide if he is worthy of this honor.
