Modern science still has not found a cure for the common cold. It seems like a simple enough quandary. But, alas the common cold is something that most people feel is just a tolerable nuisance. Nowadays many of the symptoms can be eased while we wait out the infection or the sickness. So as a society, we've seemed to settle for this comfortable compromise; at least until next winter's cold hits and we feel miserable and can't breathe. But, if there's nothing that can be done, then nothing can be done; right?

Angelica is a pleasant tasting herb that has even been candied and used as a snack. Children tend to like the flavor of the herb and it makes a delicious tea. Throughout history, angelica was used to stop a chronic cold from becoming a life threatening situation. Though this doesn't happen as much today with the over the counter medicines that we have access to; we still want to end the life of our colds so that we can get back to normal as soon as possible.

Angelica contains approximately 5% copper salts along with carotene. Carotene gives the liver the raw material it needs to produce Vitamin A. Angelica also contains plant steroids, valerianic acid and pectin. Plant steroids help to support immunity. Velerianic acid aids in relaxation and pectin aids in food digestion. It should definitely be noted that pregnant women should avoid Angelica altogether. It has been known to induce abortion and sometimes the menstrual cycle.

Rosehips make a flavorful tea. It is a great tea for someone to drink who feels that they wouldn't like herbal tea. There are many people who have never tried any tea other than Lipton because they felt that they would not find herbal teas appealing or tasty. Rosehip tea is very refreshing as an iced and sweetened tea. It also has many reported health benefits as well.

Like Angelica, Rosehips contain copper compounds; and for added cold and flu benefits, it contains a significant amount of vitamin C. The boiling action of the hot water releases the vitamin C compound in the tea. Rosehip tea contains vitamins P and K and contributes to the circulation and viscosity of the blood. Rosehip tea also stimulates the adrenal glands, and many people find it an excellent replacement for excess cups of coffee. These stimulating actions really help the body to heal itself and to rush the effects of the Angelica through the body.

These herbs can definitely help speed healing in the common cold. I don't know if I would call them a cure. But alone, or combined with your favorite over the counter medicine; you would probably find them to be very helpful.
