Angelina Jolie is expected to attend the adoption ceremony tomorrow and then will wait in the country while the final details are finalized for the adoption. During the ceremony, she will sign the adoption papers.
"All they need now is a signature from the Vice Mayor of Ho Chi Minh City to give the final approval," said Vietnam's top adoption official, Vu Duc Long, who is director of the International Adoption Department.
Once the child is handed over to Angelina Jolie, she will then meet with U.S. Consular officials. They will review the adoption and issue the child a passport to enter the United States.
As long as everything goes according to plan, officials say that Angelina Jolie will be able to take her son home this weekend!
The road to adoption for Angelina Jolie has not been long. She just filed the adoption papers earlier this month (March 2007) through an American agency. Because of the laws in Vietnam regarding unmarried couples adopting, Angelina Jolie filed without her companion, Brad Pitt. The law only allows single as well as married people to adopt a child.
Vietnam adoptions are known to be short - some, like this adoption, only taking a few weeks. Of course, that is if the background checks and the matter regarding if the adopting parent(s) will be able to provide for the child.
But then, some adoptions that can take over 6 months.
This will be the fourth child for Angelina Jolie. She has two adopted children: her son Maddox and daughter Zahara. Angelina Jolie also gave birth to a girl last year. She was named Shiloh Nouvel and her father is actor, Brad Pitt.
There is one thing that is certain regarding the adoption, and that is this child will be in good hands.
