Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox Competing for 'Barbarella' Role

'Barbarella' is one of those terrible movies that's made better with plenty of campy scenes and sets. And then, of course, there's Jane Fonda with her infamous gravity-defying nude scene in space. Now two of the women everyone would love to reenact the credit-covered nude scene are both reportedly vying for the role of 'Barbarella' in the remake of the cult classic: Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox. But who is better suited for the 'Barbarella' role: young upstart Megan Fox or seasoned seductress Angelina Jolie?

Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox share a lot of similarities, as has been pointed out time and time again. They've both got big lips, perfect skin, dark hair, and everyone is completely obsessed with them. Both have starred in roles with lesbian scenes, Angelina Jolie most notably in 'Gia', a movie where her character was involved in a serious lesbian relationship, and Megan Fox in 'Jennifer's Body', which has been banking on a lesbian kiss with co-star Amanda Seyfried to draw in crowds. Both have also been involved in action-packed roles, with Angelina Jolie kicking butt in numerous films, including 'Tomb Raider', 'Wanted', and 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith'. Megan Fox hasn't starred in nearly as many action movies, but her roles in those of the 'Transformers' franchise have been enough to turn her into a superstar. All of their roles should pay off for 'Barbarella', which has a few subdued lesbian scenes and is full of all types of action.

But who would be better for the 'Barbarella' role? It's unlikely that either would shoot the iconic opening sequence, because Angelina Jolie has too many kids to keep doing nude scenes, and Megan Fox has outright said no one would ever see her do nude scenes for a role. Actress Rose McGowan, who was up for the role, may have shot the beginning sequence, but it looks like the 'Barbarella' connections are looking for a bigger actress to fill the space boots of the film's titular heroine. I'm going to have to say that I think (if this alleged fight for the role is actually going on as reported) that Megan Fox is best suited for the campy character, especially after her performance in the film 'Jennifer's Body', which has a cult feel to it. Angelina Jolie, on the other hand, seems better suited for more serious (and less trashy) roles now that she's matured as a woman and an actress.

Still, there is one other female role in the film that needs to be filled: that of The Great Tyrant, a lesbian queen that Barbarella encounters in the original movie. So could fans of these actresses dare hope to see finally see Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie together? It would be a sight to behold, but I don't think either one will play second fiddle to the other.

Even though the poll on Celebuzz.com currently has Angelina Jolie ahead by a landslide (about 61 percent to 31 percent; the other votes have gone to another extremely popular lady, Susan Boyle). I hate to say it, but I think Megan Fox is taking Angelina Jolie's place as the bigger sex symbol (although Angelina Jolie is much the best, acting-wise). But Megan Fox better watch out when it comes to sex symbol status. Her 'Jennifer's Body' co-star Amanda Seyfried is already one step ahead of her, playing a prostitute in the film 'Chloe', a seemingly more serious movie than 'Jennifer's Body', that she's hinted at having nude scenes in.

So maybe Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox could star together again in 'Barbarella', or perhaps another young star they've both played second fiddle to, Lindsay Lohan, could step in for one of the roles (this remake sounds like something she would just die to do). But, then again, I'm just waiting to hear that she's going to star in the remake of another campy movie starring a 60's sex symbol; I'd love to see her don the same stars-and-stripes bikini as Raquel Welch in 'Myra Breckinridge'. Now that would be one train wreck of a campy remake that I'd absolutely have to see!
