Angelina Jolie visited Haiti recently, and is raising awareness of SOS Children's Villages which provides aid to Haiti's children and their families, left hurt and homeless by last month's devastating earth quake.
In a CNN interview with reporter Christiane Amanpour, the actress and Goodwill Ambassador, was asked if she were planning to adopt a child from Haiti.
"We are that kind of family," she answered. "Brad and I talk about adoption all the time. However, this is not the time to adopt. "What is important now, is to reunite Haiti's children, separated by the earthquake, with their families."
Ms. Jolie and her partner, Brad Pitt, also have donated one million dollars to Doctors Without Borders. They recently visited the pediatric wing of the Dario Contreras Hospital in the nearby Dominican Republic, a leading trauma hospital where many of the most severely injured Haitian children are being cared for.
Ms. Jolie, Oscar winner and US Goodwill Ambassador for the UN High Commission for Refugees, endorses the work of SOS Children's Villages. Like rescue efforts of the Southeast Asian tsunami proved, she feels that children who have been separated from their families should not be adopted out too soon, as it make take months, even years for families to find each other.
Meanwhile unaccompanied children are being cared for in safe temporary shelters such as those provided by SOS Children's Villages. As many as 30,000 children and their families are receiving food, shelter, medical treatment, trauma and reunification services.
SOS Children's Villages were operating in Haiti before, during and after the earthquake. They have been working for 60 years in 132 countries throughout the world.
Their family strengthening programs have received many honors. Among them are The Mother Teresa Gold Medal Award, the Conrad Hilton Award, and the Vietnam Friends' Medal Prize.
Ms. Jolie is a long time supporter of SOS Children's Villages and has visited many of their programs throughout the world. She praises their commitment to children and families and their goal of reunification.
She vouches for their competence and asks Americans to learn more about them and offer them financial support.

Post a CommentI think she has a good viewpoint here. Nice write-up, Memm!
This was nice of her, but she just annoys me. Good info and warning about adopting now, though.
I love angelina I believe she has a good heart
good report.
That was a really good article. I love Jolie. I think she has really grown into a wonderful lady after she got past all that weirdness ahem Billy Bob Thornton and blood vial days.
Interesting read.
Great article on the good work she is doing for adoption throughout the world.
I think she does a good job! She stays involved..:)
Great article. If all the people who knock Angelina would only put their money and actions into helping others instead. God bless.
Good reporting here, remarkable show of support to this poor country.
