In this article I will go through the two stars movie careers to determine which ones movies are bigger hits with the public and who rules the box office.

First both Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are huge stars and their names attached to almost any movie these days means box office success. Combined the movies they have been in have earned a staggering $9.2 billion dollars worldwide at the box office. In 2010 they hooked up in The Tourist creating one of the most fascinating pairings in Hollywood history.

So far in his career Johnny Depp has starred in 34 films and 11 of them or 32.5% have made over $100 million dollars worldwide at the box office. None of the first 11 movies Depp starred in made $100 million. His first $100 million dollar movie was the 1997 film Donnie Brasco.

From that movie on 11 out of the 23 movies Johnny Depp has starred have made at least $100 million dollars worldwide at the box office. That's 48% and includes two billion dollar movies.

Johnny Depp is one of the few actors who has ever been in a $1 billion dollar movie. And he's done it twice as the 2010 Alice in Wonderland has also cleared $1 billion dollars.

Angelina Jolie - Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005) - $478 million dollars worldwide at the box office

Angelina Jolie starred alongside her now husband Brad Pitt in her biggest grossing move to date Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Angelina did voice the character Master Tigress in the 2008 film Kung Fu Panda which made $632 million but the role was very minor.

Angelina Jolie has been in 26 movies that have grossed a total of $3.2 billion dollars worldwide. So the average film starring Angelina Jolie has made $121.4 million dollars. Another great number few in Hollywood can match.

Johnny Depp - $33.4 million dollars

Johnny Depp has been in 19 movies that have had a wide release and they made $635 million on the opening weekend for an average of $33.4 million dollars.

Angelina Jolie - $20.1 million dollars

Angelina Jolie has been in 20 movies that have had a wide release and they grossed $402 million dollars on the opening weekend for an average of $20.1 million dollars.

Who is the Bigger Draw?

The numbers for both stars are simply stunning. Their names attached to a movie today almost guarantees box office success. But the numbers also clearly reveal that even though Angelina Jolie has a higher percentage of movies that have made over $100 million dollars Johnny Depp is the the bigger draw and rules the box office.

Movies that Johnny Depp has been in have earned almost double those that Angelina Jolie have been in - $6 billion dollars to $3.2 billion. And Johnny Depp has been in three movies - Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ($960 million), Alice in Wonderland ($1 billion) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1.1 billion) that have all made double what Angelina Jolie's top money movie has made - Mr. and Mrs. Smith ($478 million).

People go to the movies to See Angelina Jolie in a film but they go to Watch Johnny Depp in a movie.
