Angelos Crashes in on Orioles Deal to Land Prospect Adam Jones

Will They or Won't They?

Chances are if you are reading this blog you have seen the Movie Major League, heck chances are if you are a male and over the age of 15 you have seen the movie Major League. Fortunately many of you were smart enough to avoid Major League 3, and unless you are a Baltimore Orioles fan you definitely have not seen Major League 4, which has been taking place at Camden Yards for the entire decade.

Baltimore fans however finally thought there was an end in sight to their misery as they brought in GM Andy McPhail who has had success turning around two floundering franchises in the Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs. McPhail was brought over with the knowledge he would have full control of personnel decisions in the organization, which had been a serious issue for previous GM's with the Orioles.

Peter Angelos has refused to relinquish any kind of control over the organization, and may be in the midst of blocking a trade that will finally give the Orioles some much needed young talent. The Orioles farm club has produced as much talent as the cast in a Pauly Shore movie. It's obvious to see the hesitation Angelos has in dealing Erik Bedard, who happens to be one of the best young left handed pitchers in the game. The deal would bring the Orioles a trio of prospects including OF Adam Jones from the Seattle Mariners organization. Jones is widely considered to be one of the best young outfielders in the game, and if the Orioles were to acquire him, he would join RF Nick Markakis, and give the Orioles a nucleus for one of the best young outfield combinations in the game.

It appears the two teams are still in negotiations, but the deal would've been completed two weeks ago if Angelos didn't stop it. The Mariners in fact called Adam Jones and had him leave his Winter Ball team to take a physical for the Orioles, that physical never happened as the deal was put on hold. Bedard may be one of the best pitchers in the game, but he has never pitched 200 innings, and has not been able to put together a completely consistent season.

If you are an Orioles fan you are hoping this is not a preview of things to come during the McPhail tenure, otherwise the team will resemble the cast from "Major League" unfortunately for Orioles fan there is no rumors of this team being sold to Ownership in Florida.
