Angels and Airwaves - We Don't Need to Whisper

With the separation of Blink 182 in 2005, Tom DeLonge (singer/guitarist) was already in full swing with his new band Angels And Airwaves. Angels is a bit of a departure from Blink. It is more of an alternative/pop mix of U2 stylized compositions with a dash of good old fashioned rock synth. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. It certainly makes for an interesting collection of songs. The band, along with DeLonge, guitarist David Kennedy (Boxcar Racer, Hazen Street), drummer Atom Willard (Rocket from the Crypt, the Offspring), and bassist Ryan Sinn (the Distillers) have created interesting and worthwhile songs on "We Don't Need To Whisper." All the songs were written and produced by DeLonge and carry an ambience all their own. You will definitely feel the U2 influence here but make no mistake, Angels and Airwaves are their own band. The guitars are right on the money with solid solos and yet they don't interfere with the vocals or original composition. They're not hitting you in the head with fast power chords but rather melodic tones that blend perfectly with the other instrumentation. "The War," is a perfect representation of this. "Valkrie Missile," starts off the cd with an interesting opening lyric, "Everyone, everyone will listen, even if it hurts sometimes. If you will, come and hear the message." And we're off!

There is definitely something under the surface of these lyrics but I will leave that up to you individually. Simply put, Angels And Airwaves, "We Don't Need To Whisper," is a very cool cd to put on and chill to. You can't ask for more than that.
