Angels' Wings Are Not Black

Audrey Star Josefek
Angels' wings are not black
E. A. Poe is not patron saint
Techno dirges cannot take back
Bleeding pictures abuse will paint

Anarchy is not power
Marijuana is not your friend
Racism is not like a flower
that opens as beauty in the end

Feeding your soul does not mean
Pentagrams carved in your wrists
Looking for darkness, forever unseen
Is not what "I'm happy" insists

Hating to destroy all hate
Weeping to silence the tears
Hunger for lust you cannot sate
Raise up walls that don't shut out fears

Wallow in such drowning pain
Thinking, "this is destiny"
Murder your strengths yet again
Making this hell what must be

But give love just one more shot
Let your strength knock down a wall
Once pure light hits all the rot
Decay begins a shaken fall

There is so much to be overcome
The journey will be long
Dormant goodness, & joy made numb
Have not smiled since life went wrong

But Hope's will is everlasting
And if you stop Death it can't kill
Such a powerful casting
Of such an unfettered will

It made be hard to comprehend
The growing and also the fight
But through the ashes your heart will send
Love & strength telling wrong from right

Never stop loving poetry
Bring music & art all back
Remembering it's not dark only
And failure will try to attack
But you can defeat despair & see
That Angels' Wings Are Not Black.
