Anguish 'tween Earthly Panes

bw Frampton

Lightning felled our willow in the moment that I left
No goodbye
no reason why, save fate
Just the dying memory of how it felt
to hold your hand in mine...
But I watched you from afar
as time became your scar
on the wound that had cut you
when a heartbeat had cast me away
Now there is no need for me to watch more
a new love has claimed your heart and,
like that scar, becomes much stronger than before
But I cannot stand to walk to the light
Oh, how I wish to lay with you and
love the way we did throughout the night
Every mirror in the house shattered in the moment that I left
I scream as I am drawn so far from home
You cannot seem to hear me pounding on the pane 'tween your world and mine...
Now I whisper your name
in this fate that I blame
Perhaps in time I will see you
and things will be as they were once before
Until then I will wait
outside the door of my fate
I stayed away from the light
hoping you will call on me once again...
