Spending a summer in Belize is a great way for Animal Science majors to benefit from coursework and gain valuable international experience.

The summer program in Belize is especially unique because of the opportunity for Animal Science majors to work with exotic animals. The coursework is very hands-on and includes sessions working at farms and the Belize zoo.

Pre-veterinary students will have opportunities to gain knowledge and education by studying animal health and diseases in large and exotic animals. All courses are taught in English and are held at Galen University in San Ignacio, Belize. Housing at the Belize program includes double-occupancy rooms at the Log Cab-Inn Resort.

The housing resort includes comfortable accommodations and affordable rates. The Belize location allows beautiful jungle surroundings, coral reefs, and rainforests. The setting could not be a more exotic and exciting environment while studying abroad.

The program in Belize changes from semester to semester based on weather, course objectives and special events.

The program includes 28 days in Galen University. Within a few miles of campus, students have the opportunity to visit the Mayan ruins, ride horses through the tropical forest, canoe or kayak the Macal, Mopana and the Belize Rivers, as well as bird watch. There are also several butterfly houses within miles of campus and many nearby caves to visit and explore. Students may also go swimming or tubing in the nearby rivers.

There are also beautiful herb trails which will allow students to learn more about Mayan herbs and medicines.

Within an hour of the University Campus, students may swim in the Blue Hole on the Hummingbird highway and play in the waterfalls of the Mountain Pine ridge area. With plenty of tourism and exciting things to do, this summer program in Belize is an attractive fit for animal science majors.

There are also opportunities to dive or snorkel in the coral reef and visit the crooked tree wildlife sanctuary. There are also many small and fascinating villages of Belize that students have the opportunity to travel to.

The host institution for the summer program in Belize is licenses and recognized by the Government of Belize and Ministry of Education. It is also the only private, independent university in Belize. Galen University operates on American teaching standards and all courses are taught in English.

Galen also has a partnership with the University of Indianapolis and offers seven of its undergraduate degree programs. The programs are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in the United States.

Galen University also offers degree programs in business, anthropology, sustainable development, veterinary medicine, hospitality and tourism and sports science.

The University faculty come from a wide range of disciplines and most of them have post-graduate degrees from American, Canadian, British or European universities.
