Animals Abused for Entertainment!

Theresa L.
Have you ever been to the circus and witness an elephant doing a outstanding feat? Perhaps you gone to the zoo and got to witness a bear riding a motorcycle. Motorcycle? Is that even possible? If you ever visit the China's zoos, than you would know that was possible.

The Associated Press reported the Animals Asia Foundation discovered abuse of many animals between September of 2009 and August of 2010. The animals were repeated beaten with sticks and metal hoots. Some of the animals were missing there claws and teeth.

Overall, there was a 28 page report that documented the abuse of the animals, and went so far as say the animals were repeatedly abused for entertainment.

The Animals Asia Foundation even including photos of bears boxing and riding motorcycles, as well as tigers and elephants. Not only were the animals abused physically, they were forced starved and kept in unclean environments.

Reading this article disgusted me. As many of you may know, I am a lover of animals. Now I ask myself, if it is considered abuse of animals to force them to do tricks, than why do we allow circus to train animals for the sole purpose of entertainment.

In the report by Associated Press, David Neale who is the Animals Asia Foundation welfare director said "There is little educational value in seeing animals in conditions that do not resemble their natural habitat."

I have never thought about it in that way before, but Neale is correct. Animals, for the purpose of entertainment, is not right. Unlike humans, animals do not have the ability to make decisions. Circus', and other training facilities, train animals for the purpose of entertaining.

SeaWorld is a good example of entertaining for the purpose of gaining funds. Without the income from people coming in to see Shamu, SeaWorld probably would not have the money to take in animals.

Many people train there dogs to sit, bark, and beg. I have personally been to SeaWorld and was fascinated by the dolphin show. I have also been to circus' and was awed by the Lion jumping through the ring of fire.

Until this very moment, I have never considered how these animals are being treated. For an animal to be taken out of there natural environment for the purpose of entertainment, is much like taking a human and putting them behind bars. In both cases, you are now forced to live a life you would not normally live.

nicely written article, and a sad, but true state of affairs for the animals in those situations...I'm surprised PETA isn't involved!

They do. I have never thought of circus, SeaWorld, rodeos as abuse before, but that article really puts an insight into it. Animals should not be used for entertainment.

It isn't right, it isn't what they were created for. They have rights

I'm so grateful that you wrote this. Advocacy is MUCH needed in the field of animal rights. And after all, how we treat animals is a measure of our humanity.

Good topic. I'm not the biggest fan of zoos and aquariums, but I'll still go. I absolutely refuse to go to a circus though after reading horror stories about it.
