Anime Review- Clannad 2 "After Story"

Matt Remley
It's only been about a year, and already a sequel is being released to one of the top anime series of 2008. Clannad was a light hearted romantic comedy genre anime that ended around the summer of 2008. Many people loved it simply because of the studio behind it- Kyoto Animation, which also animated Air and Kanon 2006, yet more very popular anime.

One must take note that Kyoto Animation is known for great animation quality and tons of detail. After they finished the original Clannad series they started making plans to create Clannad: After Story. Just judging by the name you can tell that Clannad: After Story is about what happens to the characters of the show after the first story ends. Not only that but is a continuation of the storyline, wait, what storyline?

Storyline
-

Sadly, Clannad: After Story doesn't have much of a exciting storyline, it's mostly all about Tomoya Okazaki and his adventure at high school with several different females. Clannad is a harem anime of sorts, meaning that all the girls have crushs on Tomoya and have their own ways of trying to get into his pants. Each of the girls seem to have their own story that is covered throughout the series.

In the first series, a few of the girls stories were revealed, so it's my guess that some of the other characters will get some airtime now. Although most of this anime is filled with romantic comedy, it can take supernatural turns, thus nothing will be unexpected in this new Clannad series.

Information-

In Clannad: After Story expect for all the usual characters from the Clannad video game and original anime series to return. This series is slated to have 24 episodes when fully released, and be 24 minutes long each episode like most anime. The opening theme to Clannad: After Story will be "Toki wo Kizamu Uta" by Lia, and the ending theme will be "Torch" by Lia, both are pretty decent songs.

Another great company involved in the production of Clannad: After Story is Key, the company that first created visual novels of the series. Like Kyoto Animation, they have something to contribute to the beautiful visuals of this new anime. Both companys work very well together, and seem to only create high quality work.

Personal Thoughts-

Judging by the information presented, and past experience with the Clannad series, Clannad: After Story is promising. Be sure to check out the series, and if you haven't seen the first version of the anime series, check it out also.I also recommend checking out Air, Kanon, and Kanon 2006. At the end of the day, Clannad: After Story is sure to be one of the best anime series of the year.
