Anime Review: Maburaho

Matt Remley
Harem anime is probably the most common genre, however in case you don't know what I mean please let me explain. An anime of the harem genre usually has two or more girls fighting over a guy, and in the same sense, a reverse harem is two or more guys fighting over a girl. Often times these anime are full of comedy, but sometimes they have a bit of action. Since this genre if anime is one of my favorite types, and while searching online for different anime from this genre, I found Maburaho.

Maburaho is about a magic school, and really hot chicks fighting over who gets this seemingly average guy named Kazuki Shikimori. In the world this anime is set in, people become high status kings and so on, because they have high levels of magic power.

Everyone has limited to how much magic they can use, and there are schools just for magicians. Kazuki attends one of these schools himself in fact, however he gets low scores, and his magic ability is pretty bad.

The name of the school is the Aoi Academy, and it turns out that it's full of interesting characters. Although, Kazuki has his world flipped upside down when his schools doctor learns that Kazuki is descendant of a family line containing various famous magicians.

Of course to Kazuki this doesn't mean anything, however to girls around school such as Yuna Miyama, Kuriko Kazetsubaki and Rin Kamishiro, this means the chance to make their family stronger. Yes, and I mean they want his genes so their children can become a powerful magician and their family name will live on.

Yuna is the shy girl of the group, she is calm and sweet, and after awhile Kazuki and Yuna seem to fall in love (she actually lives with him). Her intentions are not just on getting his genes, as she loves him very much, the other girls Kuriko and Rin are mostly just after his genes, however they do develop feelings for him after awhile.

Maburaho is full of romance, comedy, and some pretty good ecchi pretty much every episode. In my opinion the Japanese voice cast did a very good job, however the English cast was not that great as usual.

One of the best things about Maburaho is the girls, however the story is very good as well, I recommend it to everyone who enjoys anime with romance, a bit of ecchi, and last but not lest, comedy to wrap it all up. Can Kazuki survive the Tenchi style environment and all the girls fighting over his genes? Watch and find out!
