Anime Review: School Days

School Days is a personal favorite anime of mine, and there are some new spin-offs of it being created, so I thought I'd catch some of you up on this harem anime of sorts. The animation production for School Days was done by TNK, and it seems that they've done a pretty good job at that.

I'm very picky about my anime styles, character designs at least, so when I say that TNK did a great job on School Day's I really mean it. This anime first aired over seas in July of 2007, even though the original series has been rapped up, there has been a few spin-offs like Magical Heart Kokoro-chan.

Lets get to the storyline, while at first it seems like some sort of 90210 knock-off, School Day's has one of the most unexpected endings you will ever see in an anime like this. It starts off like any other harem, a boy named Makoto Ito rides the train back and forth from school all the time, and each day he notices this beautiful young girl also on the train.

Makoto falls in love with the girl (Kotonoha Katsura), even though she doesn't even know he exists at this point. He even takes pictures of her on his cell phone without her knowing, one day his classmate and friend Sekai Saionji notices the picture and starts to get involved.

Sekai is in-love with Makoto also, but despite this she arranges for Kotonoha and Makoto to meet on the roof top at school. Of course the two begin to date, and Sekai waits on the side lines watching every move the two make.

Obviously a love triangle is created and things start to get a little crazy, more girls get involved, and Makoto turns into somewhat of a playboy thats full of himself. He comes corrupt from lies, and sex, while watching you begin to wonder if the boy could ever tell the truth.

School Day's is one of those anime series's that may not seem all that interesting at first, but if it gets a hold of you, look out. This anime is hardcore, probably not for the youngsters either, however I recommend it to those who enjoy a good story or those who just like anime of the harem genre.
