Anime Sneak Peek: Blade of the Immortal

Matt Remley
So your a fan of Asian culture, and you have a thing for Anime, right? Either way, if your a fan of action or gory movies, then maybe you should give Anime such as this a try. For those of you that have read Blade of the Immortal in anime form, I'm sure I don't have to tell you how absolutely gory this series is. Though I would imagine that looking at the pictures in manga and watching the flow of animation in an anime are totally different in every aspect.

In my personal opinion, Anime like Blade of the Immortal tend to draw in an occult fan-base of people like I described above, fans of gory or dark themes in movies and animation. One fine example of this is Hell Sing, or perhaps Elfen Lied, which have strong story-lines and some pretty strong violence to go with it. I, myself love Anime like this, but there is a limit to how graphic of scenes I can take.

Thankfully, Blade of the Immortal does not step over this line and is pretty great, according to my opinion at least. The story revolves around Manji, who is a samurai which cannot die, due to a curse curse upon him by a nun named Yobikuni for his past deeds. Though, Manji has actually began to repent and discovers the only way to lift the curse is to kill 1,000 evil men.

For those Asian music lovers, I guess I should mention that the opening to Blade of the Immortal is simply amazing, its "Akai Usagi" by Makura no Soushi. On the flip side, the ending is "Wants" by Grapevine, which is pretty decent also. In the first episode of Blade of the Immortal, his sister is killed by a group of random thugs, and that plus the fact that he killed his sisters husband in the past, compel him to start his journey to kill those 1,000 evil men.

Luckily for us, Manji wastes no time in getting started on finding evil men, as a girl named Asano Rin asks Manji for help to avenge her families death, and avenge those who were killed in her fathers dojo by a group of psycho's pretty much. This group was led by Anotsu Kagehisa, and called Ittou-ryu. They pretty much go around and kill all members of rival dojo's and take over, to spread they're martial art style above all other styles in Japan.

Though this Anime is very good, I will have to warn you that it does contain some very graphic scenes, so it's not for everyone. However, if you can stomach some hardcore gore in Anime, then do check this new series out. If you like it, I recommend Hell Sing and Elfen Lied as well if you haven't checked those out yet, check out Crunchyroll or Anime News Network for more details on those Anime.

What are you waiting for, go check out Blade of the Immortal, you'll thank me.
