Anjali Inn: A Clean, Cheap Hostel Close to Mumbai International Airport

Where is a Good Hostel in Mumbai?

I would recommend the Anjali Inn to any budget traveler; I spent 2 nights there. The Anjali Inn is an independently owned, clean and cheap hostel close to Mumbai International Airport. This Mumbai hostel provides free airport pick-up. I enjoyed my stay and I plan to return to the Anjali Inn each time I pass through Mumbai on my trip.

Raj the Manager: Raj, the manager of the Anjali Inn, is a helpful, competent and friendly person. He made my first days in India great. A treasure trove of knowledge about what to see and do in Mumbai, Raj happily answers your questions, knows the best way to get everywhere in India and helps you make reservations to get there. He will tell you how much you should pay the taxi driver so you don't spend too much. I think Raj is an honest guy and his hostels reputation depends on it.

Free Airport Pick-up: This independently owned hostel offers free airport pick-up. After you make a deposit for your reservation online, send Raj an email with your flight number, the name of the airline and the scheduled time of your arrival. Exit the plane, pass through customs, retrieve your luggage, change a bit of money and head outside. You will be in the center of a decently sized square surrounded by a fence with taxi drivers lined up outside the fence. The driver for your free airport pick-up will have a sign with your name clearly written on it, but not necessarily correctly spelled. When you come out of the arrival hall, start by looking at the first sign on the left, and read every sign until you find your name.

Staff: The staff at the Anjali Inn in Mumbai is helpful and will not steal your belongings. There is someone there 24 hours a day to receive you and cook your meals. Raj speaks English perfectly, other staff members may not. However, they somehow easily understand what you need anyway.

Room: There is one dorm for women with 4 beds, one dorm for men with 6 beds and several private rooms at the Anjali Inn near the airport in Mumbai. The dorms have air conditioning but the common areas do not-there is a fan. The sheets were clean and crisp. Everyone gets a locker in the room.

Bathroom: The bathrooms at the Anjali Inn in Mumbai have western style toilets and hot water for the shower 24 hours a day. The bathroom is clean and there is toilet paper and hand soap available. Keep in mind you are in India. Those of you who travel a lot know what I mean.

Food: You can order breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Anjali Inn in Mumbai for a small extra charge. The food is vegetarian and cooked to order. I ate one breakfast and one dinner. Breakfast was a choice of naan bread with seasoned scrambled eggs or four delicious fried patties with ketchup. Dinner included seasoned long grain basmati rice, yellow lentil and coconut salad, a chapatti, raita and a small cup of savory chutney--I don't know what was in it but it tasted amazing. Cold water and beer are available 24 hours a day at a very reasonable price.
