Ann Coulter Canada Speech Cancelled by Angry Mob, Skittish Police
An appearance by Ann Coulter has a tendency to cause anger and outrage. On one American college campus, Coulter was attacked by a pie throwing anarchist. But never before has any speech by her been canceled by mob violence. Sticks and rocks were thrown. A fire alarm was pulled.
Ann Coulter and her supporters are blaming a letter sent to her by University of Ottawa vice-president and provost Francois Houle warning Coulter to watch what she said in Canada for the mob violence. Coulter is now going ahead with plans to file a grievance with the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
Questions are also being raised about the behavior of the Ottawa police. If the mob protesting Ann Coulter was violent enough to cancel her speech, why did the police not move to disperse the mob? Ottawa is Canada's capital, with Parliament, the Prime Minister's residence, and foreign embassies nearby the university campus where apparently a riot is taking place.
It is true that Ann Coulter often says provocative and controversial things. Those are her stock in trade, designed to provoke a reaction from the Left and the politically correct, and thus garner her publicity.
Canada is supposed to be a democracy. Free speech, even by those that many find objectionable, is necessary to preserve democracy. And yet it appears that the Canadian authorities, who are supposed to defend the rights of anyone on Canadian soil, dropped the ball and allowed an angry mob suppress the free speech of a public figure through threats and displays of violence.
Ann Coulter points out that left wing figures, such as Michael Moore, who if anything are even more provocative than she is, are not treated in such a fashion. Coulter can be forgiven if she concludes there is a bias against conservatives in Canada which is reflective in the way they are treated.
What happens now? Ann Coulter will, no doubt, milk her maltreatment by Canadians for all it is worth, perhaps even making it the subject of her next book. And Canada now has a reason to feel abject shame in the way that a guest was treated on its soil.

I agree. Small minded bigots like Ms. Coulter should not be representing America abroad. Her racism and hate speech do not represent the vast majority of Americans. From the beginning of this nation, we as a people have striven to be inclusive, tolerant, and civil.
Ms. Coulter needs to stay on Fox and spew her venom there where those who want to can tune in and listen.

Oh, Canada! Cheers! If only U.S. students would follow the lead. Let's confine her to preaching to the choir on Fox and stop her, like Saracuda, from lining her pockets with green derived from hate speech spewed forth in legitimate venues. The paltry only hundred or so students who wanted to listen to her bitter and inflammatory rhetoric should take her to dinner if they need her to reaffirm their own bigotry and bias. No one listens to her to learn anything, only to confirm.
