Ann Taylor Chooses Katie Holmes, While Anne Hathaway and Cable TV Turn Away

Life is filled with ups and downs lately, particularly for actress Katie Holmes. Soon after "The Kennedys," her expected cable TV series, was dumped before airing, Katie Holmes is smiling again. This time, she's beaming from Ann Taylor fashion advertisements, even if she's sneering at fellow actress Anne Hathaway.

Katie Holmes, one of Hollywood's current fashion plates and film stars, is the new face of fashion designer and retailer Ann Taylor. Formerly modeling for J.Crew, Katie Holmes will be seen in Ann Taylor's spring 2011 advertising materials.

Fashion photographer Tom Munro recently shot Katie Holmes in Los Angeles for fashion layouts for Ann Taylor. The images are expected to appear in fashion magazines, beginning in March 2011.

"I've been a fan of Ann Taylor since I was a young girl. I grew up loving the clothes and am really excited to be the face of Ann Taylor for the Spring season. I am thrilled to be part of a brand I believe in," said Katie Holmes, who happens to be Mrs. Tom Cruise and the mother of stylish Hollywood tot Suri Cruise.

"We are thrilled to have Katie as the face of Ann Taylor," commented Christine Beauchamp, president of Ann Taylor Stores (in the January 12, 2011, announcement). "Katie personifies the Ann Taylor brand ­ smart, talented, incredibly chic, and living a full life with beauty and grace. We admire and respect Katie for her intellect, kindness and enduring personal style."

Katie Holmes' "The Kennedys" cable TV series seems to be a no-go.

Although Canadian film director Jon Cassar had elected Katie Holmes to star opposite Greg Kinnear as American First Lady Jackie Bouvier Kennedy in his "The Kennedys" miniseries, this project seems to have been canned - at least, for now. The History Channel, originally planning to air the eight-part program, dropped "The Kennedys" last week.

Showtime soon followed suit.

So Katie Holmes is not likely to join the ranks of actresses playing the late Jackie Kennedy (Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis) on film or television. This elite group includes Anna Valle, Blair Brown, Cortnie Campbell, Cristine Rose, Elizabeth Lambert, Elizabeth Marley, Emily VanCamp, Jaclyn Smith, Jacqueline Bisset, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Jennifer Dale, Jesalyn White, Jill Hennessy, Joanne Whalley, Jodie Farber, Juanin Clay, Laura Yonker, Margaret Colin, Mary Chris Wall, Rhea Perlman, Rhoda Griffin, Rhoda Griffis, Robin Curtis, Roma Downey, Sally Taylor-Isherwood, Sarah Hyland, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Stephanie Romanov and Susan Waldrop and more.

Katie Holmes is on the outs with actress Anne Hathaway.

Katie Holmes and her husband, actor Tom Cruise, have turned their noses up towards Anne Hathaway, who used to be their close friend. In November 2010, Anne Hathaway appeared in a skit on "Saturday Night Live," in which she spoofed Katie Holmes on a mock remake of "The Miley Cyrus Show." (Vanessa Bayer played Miley Cyrus.)

In fact, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are rumored to be willing to skip the Academy Awards ceremony altogether this year, simply to avoid Anne Hathaway. The 38^th Academy Awards are scheduled for February 27, 2011.
