Don't Ditch Your Bible Yet

Anne Rice leaves Christianity, as reported in an interview at Los Angeles Times. The 68-year-old novelist, best known for her Vampire Chronicles, says she still has "faith in Christ" as reported at M Live.

Is it possible to remain faithful to Christ but leave Christianity?

Anne Rice leaves Christianity, and her reason is, "In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life." The debate rages on as to whether or not faith in Jesus means you also have to be for everything Rice is against. Show me a Christian Fundamentalist who opposes homosexuality and I'll show you a gay person who attends a gay friendly church and who considers himself a Christian.

But is it possible to remain faithful to Christ and leave Christianity at the same time? What is the meaning of Christianity? As reported at Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, "To define it simply, Christianity is one of the world's major monotheistic religions. Christians believe in Jesus Christ and follow his teachings."

A pro-life Christian will tell you that abortion is wrong. But what did Jesus say? Anne Rice leaves Christianity. So, how can she also have faith in Jesus Christ? Is Christianity what a person walking down the street teaches or is Christianity what Jesus teaches? Anne Rice herself said, "But following Christ does not mean following his followers."

Anne Rice leaves Christianity, but will she return to it?

A religious walk is a journey. First Anne Rice was a Catholic. Then she left Catholicism to become an Atheist. During this time she produced her most memorable works, The Vampire Chronicles. Then Anne Rice returned to Christianity and wrote her religious based books, Christ the Lord. Now she's left Christianity but remains faithful to Christ. Even though she hopped on Facebook to announce her new stand, it appears she still has one foot in the door of Christianity. If she returns to Christianity in the future, particularly since she still has faith in Jesus Christ, readers may be confused, but they should not be surprised, given her track record on religion.

She left the organized Christian church/religion, with all it's rules and taboos created over the centuries, not Jesus Christ's teachings.

Every denomination has their own interpretation of "Christianity." I think she's just rebelling against those.

Sounds like she is confused; I get that.

I'm not sure how someone can stay on the fence so easy and hop all over the place to whatever suits them at any given time. Either you're a Christian, Buddhist, Pagen, Atheist, etc. or you're not. Definitely enough to makes someones head spin.
