Annie's Creamy Deluxe Whole Wheat Shells & Extra Cheesy Cheddar Sauce

Even Though it Had Whole Wheat Pasta We Still Really Enjoyed This Macaroni and Cheese

As my son has gotten older and has started trying out new foods, I have been finding myself looking at foods differently. Up until recently, my son didn't eat a lot of dairy, if any at all. However, now he eats cheese pizza, so I thought that it might be fun for him to get some macaroni and cheese. It seems to be a dish that nearly every single child that I have ever met enjoys. So the next time that I was in the grocery store I started to pay attention to the different kinds of macaroni and cheese boxes that were available. We don't normally have butter on hand, or milk for that matter, so anything that required the addition of butter and milk was out of the question. We did find something that had the cheese portion already made. Even better, this macaroni and cheese was made with organic pasta and it was Annie's Creamy Deluxe Whole Wheat Shells & Extra Cheesy Cheddar Sauce.

I was familiar with the Annie's company and like to support them very much. Prior to their macaroni and cheese I got their Honey Bunny Grahams, Honey Bunnies Cereal and Cinna Bunnies Cereal for my son. I wasn't sure if he recognized the label but when I made the macaroni and cheese he was very eager to try it. I had some of it with him. The box made about three servings, or about three cups of macaroni and cheese so there was no way that my son would be eating it all himself. In fact he is only two and I don't think he even had an entire serving for lunch. We both thought that it tasted good. I thought that there was certainly a presence of heartiness when it came to the organic whole wheat pasta but it wasn't too overwhelming. The flavor of the cheese was very good and there was a nice amount so you hardly noticed the heartiness in the Annie's Creamy Deluxe Whole Wheat Shells & Extra Cheesy Cheddar Sauce. I was eager to see what the nutrition looked like since I knew that whole wheat pasta can some times offer more nutrition than the less hearty alternative.

The nutrition facts overall looked really good. They were based on one cup of Annie's Creamy Deluxe Whole Wheat Shells & Extra Cheesy Cheddar Sauce, and again one cup was one serving. In one serving there was eleven grams of protein, five grams of sugars and six grams fiber. Thankfully in one serving there was only ten milligrams of cholesterol but there was six hundred and eighty milligrams of sodium, and one serving also contained forty-six grams of carbohydrates. In a cup of the Annie's Creamy Deluxe Whole Wheat Shells & Extra Cheesy Cheddar Sauce there was two hundred and fifty calories with only fifty calories from fat. I was particularly interested in the minerals and vitamins of the nutrition facts because I was wondering how much calcium was in the macaroni and cheese. It listed vitamin A with six percent and both iron and calcium with fifteen percent I was very happy to see this. As I said overall I thought that the nutrition facts looked good. After looking over the nutrition facts I scanned the ingredients see what they were.

On the box of Annie's Creamy Deluxe Whole Wheat Shells & Extra Cheesy Cheddar Sauce it clearly stated that seventy percent of the ingredients were organic. I was sure that this was only referring to the pasta and that the cheese and remaining food items in the macaroni and cheese were not going to be organic and I was correct. The ingredients were organic whole wheat shell pasta, cheddar cheese made from pasteurized milk, cheese culture, salt and non-animal enzymes, cream, whey, skim milk, natural flavor, natural sodium phosphate, salt, lactic acid, sodium alginate, annatto, extract used for natural color and xanthan gum. I made note that the cheese was at least vegetarian, even if it was not organic. I also took note of some of the other interesting ingredients used, overall everything was pretty natural and I guess only expected when you are making a cheese that has to survive on a shelf. All in all I was glad that I got the Annie's Creamy Deluxe Whole Wheat Shells & Extra Cheesy Cheddar Sauce for my son. I think that we liked it enough that we will get it again from time to time. While I liked the taste of other macaroni and cheese a little bit more I really liked the nutrition that we got from this one. One box only cost about three dollars when it is on sale, making it a pretty good price for an organic item. I would happily recommend for anyone to try out this macaroni and cheese for it nutrition and very good taste. I am glad that we tried it very much.
