Gift giving can be difficult whether the recipient is close to you or not. It would seem that they closer they are to you, the easier it would be buy a gift, but this is not necessarily the case. One of the most difficult gifts to buy is an anniversary gift for your parents. You want it to be special and definitely something personal and that is exactly why it can be so mind-boggling. If you are having trouble choosing a gift for your parents' anniversary, here are some ideas to help you out.

The easiest way to narrow down the choices of an anniversary gift for your parents is to go the traditional route. Each year of marriage has an associated type of gift or material the gift should be made of. If you are not familiar with the list, there is a great source at Happy-Anniversary.com. Here you can find the complete list from year 1 to year 80. They also provide links to ideas for most of the years and there is also a traditional alternative list side-by-side with the original. Make this your first stop.

Anniversary gifts for your parents should be something personal. The best personalized gift can be in the form of photographs. Look through the old family photos, or better yet, look at the photos your uncles or aunts may have of your parents. These can be important because they are not seen as much by your parents and can provide them with some great reminiscent memories. You can find several photos and have them copied or re-touched if they are extremely old. Make an album of the photos and present this to them. Also, you can find one photo that you think exemplifies them and combine it with an elegant frame or a frame that will fit with their décor.

Another idea is to ship your parents away, literally, by giving them a cruise. This may be something that have wanted to do, but for one reason or another, cannot bring themselves to purchase and plan it themselves. A week-long cruise to the Bahamas may very well provide them with a getaway experience that have needed and wanted. You can find great cruise deals at many of the major travel sites like Expedia, Travelocity, or Orbitz.

If your parents are not the travelling sort, perhaps a weekend getaway is more appropriate. Find a resort or a good bed-and-breakfast nearby that provides a lot of amenities, such as full service breakfast in bed, indoor pools, spas, Jacuzzis, or other activities. Let them enjoy the weekend and feel special without having to go through too much trouble in travelling.

If all else fails, you can buy them one evening out in their own city. Get them a gift certificate to a nice fancy restaurant. Go all out for the one evening plan. Make it ritzy and elegant. They will enjoy the food and the atmosphere while allowing them to return to the comfort of their own home and their own bed. Make sure they don't have any other plans for that night or let them use the gift any time they choose.

With these anniversary gift ideas for your parents, choosing should not be so difficult and there is certainly something here that will please both your parents. If all else fails, throw them a party and invite their friends and family.
