Announcing My Pregnancies

When I got pregnant with my first child, I was extremely excited. I couldn't wait to break the news to my husband. I pondered various ways to go about announcing the pregnancy to him, and wanted it to be done in a cute little way.

So, I put my positive pregnancy test in a necklace box and presented it to him as a gift. When he came home that night he was excited because he had had a performance that night, and he was excited about how well he did. I told him that I knew he would do a good job, and that I got him a gift to celebrate. He looked somewhat quizzical, and took the box. He opened it, and a huge smile broke over his face. He looked up at me with excitement in his eyes, and said, "You're pregnant?" I said yes, and he hugged me.

We told our family in person, and they were excited for us. I told most of my friends over email, because we moved to another state by the time I wanted to announce it to my friends. I wanted to wait until I was around 3 months or so before I told friends.

With my second child, we didn't announce it so fast. I was a little embarrassed because I got pregnant so quickly after giving birth to my first child (3 months after!!) My husband and I found out together. I went to the doctor, and the doctor called me back with the results. I was kind of in shock. My husband hugged me and told me that everything would be ok. My mind was reeling because it was so soon, too soon after having my son. I knew my body hadn't even healed yet.

We waited to tell our parents for a couple of months. About 3 or 4 months. And, we told them not to tell anyone yet. We finally told friends and extended family around 6 or 7 months into the pregnancy. By that time, I was excited about being pregnant, and didn't care about what anyone had to say. Most people offered congratulations, and the occasional few had little snippy comments about it happening so soon. But, I didn't care. I felt blessed to be able to have another baby, and I relished that time.
