Announcing Video Programs Make it Fun for Children with Autism to Socialize

Andrea Parker
Socialization is one of the most difficult challenges for children with autism. Socialization is so hard, and that is why ways to make it fun for children with autism to socialize are so badly needed. One such way that makes it fun for children with autism to socialize is through the use of videos. Videos are usually enjoyable for children. Taking the pressure off learning social skills to make it more fun for children with autism to socialize is a great concept. Since children with autism often learn visually, videos are perfect. They can demonstrate social behavior in a way to make it fun for children with autism to socialize through video modeling.

The first series of videos is called "Fitting In and Having Fun." It teaches children to start a conversation, deal with disappointment and accept help. The second volume focuses on middle school and targets making friends, making a good impression and flirting. The third volume is about joining the group, common courtesy and being flexible.

The second series of videos is "Watch Me Learn." The first volume is about pretend play, taking turns and requesting. The second volume in the series is about social interactions with peers and self help. It also has some songs and dancing. Volume three is about school and shows how to greet the teacher, circle time and how to kick a ball at recess. Volume four is called "Friends" and demonstrates playing catch and treasure hunts with other children.

Also interesting is the program titled "Modeling: Let's Go to the Restaurant DVD." This is often a very difficult area for children with the disorder. The video shows how to act appropriately in a restaurant. The above videos are a really good idea and have value because they make if fun for children with autism to socialize. Perhaps if it is not so toilsome, children can make more progress in the area of social skills.
