The Annual "Art Across The River Festival" will be held on September 30, 2007 from 9am to 5pm. Rain Date is October 7, 2007. It is sponsored by the Columbia Portland Historical Society, and Knowlton Township. This festival offers something for everyone, and takes place on the scenic Delaware River, specifically on the walking bridge between Portland, PA and Columbia, NJ.

For artists, they will have an opportunity to display and sell their work. This will include painters, photographers, sculptors, and jewelry craftsmen. In addition, cash prizes totaling $2,635.00 will be given by judges. Categories include Painting and Other Media, and prizes include Best in Show: $200.00, Best Regional Scene: $150.00, and media categories of First Prize: $ 150.00, Second Prize: $125.00, Third Prize: $100.00, three awards for Honorable Mention of $50.00 each, and four awards for Recognition of $25.00 each, respectively. The above categories are for adult artists.

There are also prizes for student artists which include the Portland Mayor's Award of $100.00, and for Kindergarten through Eight Grade, First Prize: $60.00, Second Prize: $45.00, Third Prize: $35.00, Honorable Mention: $25.00, and Certificate of Recognition: a $20.00 Gift Certificate. Prizes for those in Ninth through Twelfth Grade range from $70.00 to $40.00.

One of the goals of the Festival is to encourage local student and professional artists by providing them with an incentive to create artwork and an excellent opportunity to exhibit it. They feel it is very important to appeal to local artists with a venue such as this. As an artist in general, it is important to have various opportunities to exhibit your work, not just in galleries. One is able to not only make contacts with fellow artists, but to meet people in the community and get feedback from individuals in general about the general appeal of your work. It is also an excellent networking opportunity. Artists will often have their portfolio there for people to look through, which gives one a more complete impression of their scope of work; if they don't have all of their works there to exhibit.

This outdoor show takes place on the walking bridge between Columbia, NJ and Portland, PA over the scenic Delaware River. This was once a covered bridge that was washed away by the flood of 1955. In addition to Fine Arts and Crafts, there will also be a barn tour, an antique car show, food, music, a barn tour, and various demonstrations.
