West Warwick, RI 02893
United States of America
The standards include the West Warwick and Coventry High School bands, local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops, floats with Little Miss Ireland, and the Shriners. In addition, the bagpipers and the Kentish Guard are usually present. There are also the antique cars and Fire Trucks that signal the end of the parade.
This parade is usually the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day. I have not been able to confirm this, at the time of writing this article. However, it would be on Sunday March 16th and usually starts at noon. There are many locations on the route where you can stand, but the best area is near St. James and John Church where you can sit on the steps to the church or on the wall. Also, a little bit down the street is another location that has a wall on which you can sit, too.
Many people bring their lawn chairs and sit at the curb, but beware the children that will run out to get the candy that is thrown from the floats and cars in the parade. That is what my children have always loved the best...the fact that they can run into the street and get candy and Mom actually lets them eat it. Of course, it is wrapped candy!
There are not very many Irish people in West Warwick, but it is funny how everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day! There are all sorts of people wearing green and "Kiss Me I'm Irish" buttons, and anything Irish-like. If you don't have something green or Irish, there are vendors all over the streets. They are selling green hats and other festive items like boas, balloons, buttons and bow-ties, too!

Post a CommentI go to this parade every year, and Im not even Irish. I take my family and have a great time. This year we added another addition, it is his turn to see the fun. We always go to the Hour Bar and they are kid friendly. They have a cook out outside and everyone is welcome. If its cold outside you can go into warm up, or warm up with a nice drink. They kiddies can get a soda or a juice. You can't ask for a better time. Dont ya just wish life was always just a laid back and happy day.
I love st. patty's day and not just because I am partly Irish. People seem to be happier on lighter holidays like this one.
Sounds like a lot of fun.
What a wonderful parade. It doesn't matter how big or small a parade is as long as you have fun.
This sounds like great fun! We have a Christmas Parade and everyone participates. My favorite part is catching all the candy and beaded necklaces. It's like Mardi Gras ;-) Happy St. Patty's Day to YOU!
Sounds like fun!

This party sounds like a good time. Hey, where can I get a hat/wig like the man in the first picture? My kids would love being seen with mom wearing that all day!! :)
