Anoop Desai, Megan Corkrey Safe Despite Geeky March 11 Performances

American Idol Kicks off Jasmine Murray, Jorge Nunez

I love Anoop Desai as much as the next person, but I have to admit that I was squirming uncomfortably in my chair last night while watching his really bad Michael Jackson impersonation. I mean, the boy tried his hardest, but it just wasn't working for me, dawg!

In fact, I was so sure that Anoop Desai would be one of the two American Idol contestants sent him tonight that I would've bet anybody ten dollars (hey, we're in a recession!) that we'd be saying good-bye to him. Good thing I didn't make that bet after all or else I would be out a whole ten dollars! It seems that despite the bad Michael Jackson karoke, America proved they loved Anoop enough to keep him around... at least for another week.

Of course, Anoop Desai wasn't the only who had a geeky performance. With the entire Michael Jackson songbook at the American Idol contestants disposal, Megan Corkrey chose to sing The Jackson Five's version of Rockin Robin. Really Megan, Rockin Robin? We're talking about Michael "Freaking" Jackson here.

And what was up with the ridiculous dancing? If you can't dance then how about you try standing still! Seriously. If Megan pulls those Hokey Pokey moves again, I swear I'm changing the channel. Which I might just have to do since American saved Megan Corkrey too. Sigh.

When all was said and done the two American Idol contestants to be sent home this week were actually Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez. Marc Anthony and Jennifer must've slacked a little on the voting last night with Jorge. Oh well. Jorge Nunez was a good singer, but I almost think the American Idol judges only kept him around to spite the annoying and over-emotional, Tatiana Del Toro.

Besides the usual American Idol stuff that happens on the results show, we were treated to two performances this week! One by Kanye West and the other by American Idol royalty, Kelly Clarkson. Yup, Kelly Clarkson has a new hit single at the top of the charts and she's been signing it anywhere where there's more than 1 person. In fact, by now who hasn't heard Kelly Clarkson's My Life Would Suck Without You? But it was a great performance as always and I hope it's not the last we see of Kelly Clarkson on AI this season.

I'm not sure how the new judging rules are going to work. Basically the judges now have the power to overrule any bad decisions that American might make with their voting. They can save a contestant once this season, but the decision has to be unanimous among all the judges. This could make for some interesting surprises in the next upcoming weeks if America decides to turn on any of the judge's favorites (Danny Gokey, anybody?).

Can't wait for next week's show!

I didn't think any of the performances were good. Imo, the only one that can perform MJ's songs and do them justice, is MJ. As far as Anoop, his performance was not one of the worst of the night although I'm sure he is capable of much more. Perhaps the reason so many people love Anoop is we have seen him perform and know he has what it takes to outperform all of the others. I'm hoping this coming week will be his week to shine and quieten all of the negative comments.
