Anorexics Thinspired by New British Royal Bride Kate Middleton

You Can't Be Too Rich or Too Thin

New royal bride Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge seems to be melting away. She has lost so much weight since her engagement that the press has been referring to her as the "disappearing Duchess." Her waistline looks smaller than her head.

When we first saw photos of Britain's Prince William's Kate, she looked healthy, fit and beautiful, but recent photos taken on her recent trip to the U.S. have her looking painfully thin and gaunt. Her sister Pippa, a popular British favorite is also losing weight.

The recent marriage of the newly crowned Royal couple William and Kate has renewed interest in the British monarchy not seen since the death in 1997, of Lady Diana, William's mother.

Like it or not young royal princesses, especially when they are beautiful and thin become media sensations and role models for young women. In the 90's all the world watched the lovely Diana. Now all the world will watch Kate.

Diana became a fashion icon and admitted to a variety of eating disorders. However there was much more to Diana than fashion. Her innate kindness in helping the less fortunate and her charitable work endeared her to the world.

Kate's media image will influence young women and girls who in their dreams aspire to "marry a prince someday" and be rich, beautiful and thin. They might say, "Look at her, she married a prince. She has lost 30 pounds since her engagement. People call her beautiful, graceful and amazing. She is a size 0 now. I want to look like her."

We have no idea who Kate is, since we have never heard her speak on any particular subject. She is nearly 30 and as far as we know, never had to work for a living. She has the time and the money to work at looking pretty and thin. She exercises, meets with fashion designers, gets her hair done and concentrates on her appearance.

She is the number one target of photographers, magazines and fashionistas throughout the world. Does husband William expect her to become an emaciated fashion icon? Will that be her legacy? We shall see.

It seems America's obsession with Kate's weight loss has taken an unhealthy turn. According to MSNBC and the Today Show, photos of Kate and her sister Pippa have appeared on "pro-ana" and "pro-mia" sites which promote anorexia and bulimia. One can't imagine Kate wanting to be a role model for anorexics.

Much pressure is upon Kate as she becomes a member of the Royal family, and perhaps future queen of the United Kingdom. We can only wish her much happiness and good health.

I did notices she got thinner, hope girls won't think anorexia is the answer to looking like her. As for Kate working, she did work, in her family business.

The stress of a highly public life may be getting to her. That would be a shame.

Great article! I've always read news stories about the Queen and her family. I can only hope that Kate (Catherine) has been around the royal family long enough to adjust to the press and everything that goes with it. I can't imagine what it would be like to have pictures taken of you everytime you went anywhere. That must be really hard. For all the royals luxurious they pay a very high price for privacy. I really wish this couple well and hope that it doesn't become too much for them. I wonder if she has people around her telling her to be a certain size so she will look good in pictures? I certainly hope not but maybe even she didn't like the way she was looking in pictures after her engagement. I personally thought she was beautiful. I hope the world doesn't get to her.
