Another Airplane Crash

Today, a second Airbus jet has crashed, with slim chances of survivors. Only one survivor of the plane crash has been reported at this time, a small child found floating amongst the wreckage. Some reports indicate that the child survived because it was strapped into its own seat. A massive rescue effort is being carried out, and the French Navy is lending assistance to local rescue efforts to recover survivors from the crash wreckage.

The Airbus Flight 626 that crashed departed from Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, Monday night at 9:30 p.m. for a four and a half hour flight to Moroni, on the island nation of Comoros. It was one of three regularly scheduled weekly flights between the two cities. The crash occurred at 1:30 a.m., and is being attributed to bad weather at this time. Further reports will be released on the cause of the plane crash as the investigation continues.

Officials from Charles de Gaulle airport have stated that there were 66 French passengers aboard Flight 626, and the total number of passengers and crew was 153. While the aircraft was also an Airbus, the similarities between this plane crash and the recent airplane crash off Brazil end there. In the Brazilian accident, all 228 passengers on the flight are presumed dead. Officials have stated that these are two separate air catastrophes, since the Airbus jets were different models being operated by different airlines.

A massive rescue effort is still underway as the airplane wreckage is located and recovered, while relatives of the passengers are gathering to await the news. High seas and windy weather continue to hamper rescue efforts. The fact that one survivor has been found in the wreckage lends a small ray of hope that others will soon be located.
