Another Carcass in Prospect Park

Voodoo or Worse

The carcass of what is believed to be a deer or a goat was found in two separate trash bags in Prospect Park. One bag held the body, the other bag held the entrails (guts), and the animal's head was missing.

A passerby, Alex Gurevich, picked up the scent of the mutilated animal near Parkside Avenue and Parade Place, reports The Brooklyn Paper.

I saw the bags with visible body parts on NY1News; it was disturbing because it looked deliberate.

Why? Why would someone do this to a poor defenseless animal and leave the remains out in the open to be found?

In these incidences, Voodoo is always suspected. Prospect Park, and its surrounding areas, is known for Voodoo.

I wrote a piece back in August titled, "Spotlight on a unique Clinton Hill business," about the photographer, Stephanie Keith, who concentrates on Voodoo in the area. And on Aug. 15, 2010, there was a Vodou (Voodoo) celebration in Prospect Park that attracted about 100 people.

Back in 2009, the animal tongues nailed to trees in Prospect Park were suspected to be "some sort of ritual sacrifice," reports Gothamist.

We can grasp the reasons behind animal sacrifice. It's been going on since the beginning of time.

Remains not associated with a ritual sacrifice are more disturbing. It's pure animal slaughter!

When a ritual takes place, there are usually items near the animal's remains such as candles, money, or food. Garbage bags are not normally used.

So, in this case, it appears an individual, or individuals, intentionally slaughtered the animal and left it out in the open to be found. The question is, "why?

The police are writing it off as a case of "illegal dumping." I think there is more to it than that. What do you think, Park Slope?

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
