Verden Resident Wins Playing $50,000 Jackpot Scratcher

Gamblers just keep winning in Oklahoma. First there were the big winners at the casinos, (check my profile for their stories) and now a woman in Verden, Oklahoma has hit big on a lottery scratch off ticket.

The Oklahoma Lottery Commission released the following press release on the win.

Donna Ramsey believes if she can win the Oklahoma Lottery then anyone can. Her proof is the $50,000 she won from playing the newest Scratcher, $50,000 Jackpot, from the Oklahoma Lottery.

"You can win big playing the Lottery," Ramsey said. "It can happen to the simplest person."

An occasional player, Ramsey purchased a ticket on a whim at the Verden Food Mart at 102 N. 1st Street in her hometown.

Verden is located between Chickasha and Anadarko, southwest of Oklahoma City.

She was so excited that she immediately drove to the Lottery headquarters to claim her prize.

Looking toward the future, Ramsey plans on paying off her mortgage and buying new toys for her son. She plays the Oklahoma Lottery knowing that a portion of its proceeds benefits Oklahoma education.

"I think it's great," Ramsey said.

The lottery is relatively new in Oklahoma, having been put into play in November 2005.

Net proceeds of all Lottery games are used to support improvements and enhancements for Oklahoma education. More than $297 million has been contributed to education since November 2005 with funds directed to common education, career and technical education and to the higher education capital bond issue through the Oklahoma Education Lottery Trust Fund (OELTF).

The Oklahoma Legislature appropriates the OELTF.

Proceeds are used statewide to supplement existing funds for a variety of important education purposes, including: teacher compensation and benefits, early childhood development programs, college scholarships, classroom technology and construction of educational facilities.

Interesting to look at J P Whickson's comment then at David A. Reinstein's. You did a great job of handling the facts, but something like this can trigger at lot of different responses.

I have mixed feelings - It sometimes seems almost too bad when this happens - like a slot machine hitting and causing even more people who can afford to lose little if anything to believe it just might happen for them, too. It might for sure.... but the odds are that gambling will render the poor poorer. N'est pas?

Marie you make me so jealous with these stories. We just got back from a three day casino hop and I'm down $150. Lost about $1000 on the slots and made it back up on the tables. (The losses weren't all at one time BTW. I don't take that kind of money with me. Lost $300 played it back on the tables, lost it again on the slots, won it back again on the tables and etc. I think that should tell me to stick to table games.)
