Another Look at Kate Gosselin - is She a Bad Mother?

Jane Meyer
Kate Gosselin is in the news again. Or did she ever leave the gossip arena? Having moved on to the third week of Dancing With the Stars, her star isn't dimming. Besides her DWTS gig, which reportedly pays $150,000 to $200,000, she just released her new hardcover book, "I Just Want You to Know: Letters to My Kids on Love, Faith, and Family".

Cable network TLC also just announced that she will be starring in two new network shows. "Twist of Kate" will show Kate visiting other mothers and discussing their challenges and lives. She'll also step into the other mothers' roles and work at their jobs.

"Kate Plus 8" is also in the lineup. This new version of the old "Jon & Kate + 8" will show new footage of Kate with her kids, sans Jon. Although she is experiencing show biz success, it seems as though her detractors are still everywhere.

When Kate moved on to the third round of Dancing With the Stars, I posted a congratulatory Facebook status update in my profile to Kate Gosselin as an experiment. I was curious to see what my Facebook friends had to say about her. One of the replies was: "Barf. I think Kate needs to find a sinkhole and fall into it. I am so sick of both Jon and Kate. Go take care of your +8 and stop trying to be famous for nothing."

That was the general consensus. What I want to know is: how can you expect this woman to support her eight kids without working on her numerous projects? According to the entertainment press, Jon Gosselin is not working on anything and is not earning any money right now.

I wish Kate success in dancing With the Stars (she has my vote each week) and hope that her children survive this difficult time.

She annoys me- I don't know why, but she just acts spoiled all the time. I think her kids have had enough of the spotlight- goodness, they've grown up in the media! She owes it to them to give them a "normal" life

Call me biased but my mother helped raise 8 siblings without a smidgen of the money that Kate has. Yes, she has to work hard to raise those kids but that doesn't necessarily mean that she has to be in the spotlight all the time. There is balance. Of course, I don't know her and your article could be absolutely correct (no criticism intended). Maybe it takes extraordinary efforts to raise a large family these days.
