Another Outlet for Freelance Writing: Www.uvocorp.com

M. Maiero
From my experience, there are very few good outlets for writing freelance on the Internet. There's Associated Content, which I still believe to be the best because it's almost hassle-free. As an Associated Content writer, I feel the need to report on my outside involvement with other freelance writing websites.

Recently, I came across an advertisement on craigslist.org in regards to writing positions. I was thrilled. Not only did the site require that you have a college degree, which I'd recently obtained, but it actually required you to apply. "Oh man, I hope I get the job!" I thought.

Within 3 hours of applying, I got a call from some woman calling from SOMEWHERE. Her accent was like nothing I'd ever heard before and her inflection of words' sounds made absolutely no sense. It sounded like she was talking backwards. Little did I know the company she represented, uvocorp, was almost entirely backwards itself.

Check it out: www.uvocorp.com.

Pretty clean looking site, right?

Wrong!

Uvocorp.com is a plagiarism-selling service in which you, the new uvocorp.com 'employee' bid on writing assignments for students.

But what's the most backward thing, aside from the bidding, is that some of the writing assignments-which are sometimes clearly defined as reports, etc.-can be extremely simple. I've written 2 page high school papers for $25.

Then again, some of the orders simply aren't worth it. $80 for a 10 page Master's level paper? Give me a break.

I've even seen people theses up for bid! Is that really acceptable?

After all, none of the customers pay enough. Period. Some little assignments can be a quick $10, but dealing with the site and other restrictions make it simply too much trouble.

For instance: the damn administrators. If you, the writer, have any grammatical errors, they will take money out of your bid. Other restrictions include lateness, plagiarism, and not being an 'advanced' member. In order to be an 'advanced' member, you have to write more than 20 pages a month for uvocorp.com-which is nearly impossible considering the small amount of orders that trickle in.

But back to the uvocorp.com administrators-their English is simply terrible.

Here is a transcript of a conversation I had with one uvocorp.com administrator regarding my bid for an assignment. The price was listed at $24, so naturally I had to bid in with $29. I specifically wrote that I wouldn't do the assignment for any less to both the customer and the administrator. With no feedback whatsoever, I was assigned the paper-at the price of $24.

Unfortunately, the transcript is backwards.

It's a figure of speech really and, yes, by the tone you've adopted, you do
need to be reminded of the standards of your company. Unless you simply
have low standards.

I know my responsibilities, and I know the standards of our company, and
you don't have to remind me about this. And by the way , i haven't answered
your questions right away, because it wasn't my shift yet and I haven't
worked at that moment yet. And I have answered your request as soon as I
came to work. So there is nothing "funny" about this. You have offensed me
for no reason, funny...huh?
From: Me

It doesn't surprise me that you would miss out on the duplicity of the
statement. In fact, it's partly your responsibility, as well as the red
tape of the site's bidding system, for this comment. Funny that you would
respond to this petty conversation within minutes, while valid questions
took hours to answer.

"Well, that's too bad because he will see this entire conversation,
knowing
that his grade was sold out by some two-bit scallywag administrator
because of a $2 difference."

This was a direct offense!
From: Me
To: Admin

It was hypothetical, never directed toward you. You're not a scallywag,
now are you? You came through and, more importantly, you allowed me to
come through for the customer.

Mark,

I expect you to aplogize for using of offensive words, otherwise I will
talk to our supervisor regarding the issue of disrespectful behaviour.

Well, that's too bad because he will see this entire conversation, knowing
that his grade was sold out by some two-bit scallywag administrator
because of a $2 difference. After all, it's not my reputation that's at
risk here. Raise the price and I'll have it done in twenty minutes.
That's what good writing costs.

From: Admin

Theorder has to be completed in 20 minutes. If it will be not completed on

fact that you are not able to complete simple high school level paper on
time.
From: Admin

Mark, we are not gonna send to the customer only the half of the order. The
price of $12 per page is thje highest. Please upload the howle order ASAP.

From: Me

From: Me

I.e., if you can't afford $26, I can always sell you half of the assignment
for $13.
From: Me

Right. I put my bid in: $29. Take it or leave it; it's just a matter of
reviewing the bid, then denying or accepting it. I've already lowered my
price to $26.
From: Admin

Date↓: 20 Aug - 1:24 AM
What are you talking about? What do you mean by "I'll sell half of the
assignment for $13. Let me know." YOu have to compelte the whole order
ASAP. you have seen the price for the order when you have applied for it,.
If you didn't like it, you should've not apply at all. And now when the
order is assigned to you , you should complete it. I have already
increased the price higher than our standards. iT'S ONLY 2 PAGE PAPER,
COMPLETE IT AND UPLOAD IT ASAP.

I am still waiting for your reply. Does your customer need the entire
assignment in one hour?
From: Me
To: Admin
Date↓: 20 Aug - 12:41 AM
You were a bit late on the feedback, and the order never changed color.
After all, why should a desperate high schooler be forced to wait three
hours for some administrator to respond to a few simple questions? I
would have done the paper for $29, now I'm forced to lower my price?
Perhaps I should lower the standards, because I'm at a loss for time?

There is a significant difference in the english language for the words
'apply' and 'accept.' Especially when it comes to money.

I'll sell half of the assignment for $13. Let me know.
From: Admin
To: Me
Date↓: 20 Aug - 12:22 AM
Mark, this is unacceptable. You have applied for the price of $19. And now
you say that you haven't even started to work on it. This order has to be
compelted on time. Also we cannot increase the price higher than $24 This
is only a high school level paper.

After you have applied for order you have taked all the responsibility for
it, so please upload it on time.

Thank you, we appreciate your help.

Can you believe it? Overall, uvocorp.com is one of the worst companies to write for, so all freelance writers looking for online work should steer clear of this bogged-down, sketchy, hooligan organization.

Yes, I'm totally inclined to agree with everything you've said. I've been working for this fiendish organisation for over a year. I just don't get it: why can they not pay what you earn when you earn it?
Matter of fact, the so-called "staff" appears to be nothing more or less than just two people. At the time, I thought nothing of it, but then when they called over and over again, the same low male voice or the same flat female voice (both accented so that they say "ohh-deh" rather than "order" and "cah-stuh-mehr" rather than "customer") with different names, well it was then that I saw what a fool I'd been. My advice? Steer clear of these people for the following reasons:

-like the author said, their English is incoherent.
-they call you, you can't call back.
-the payment is never on time and is paltry.
-their anonymity! I've never even seen these people directly, so why the secrecy?

This is all mad. Uvocorp pays every mid month and end month. I feel bitter with all of you. It is like you have been sent. I have worked several sites, essaywriters, freelancewritingcenter, academia research and even this recent allwriting.net. Each has advantages and disads but the most tolerant site I ever came across is uvocorp. I have made $2000 this past 15 days and am headed 3000 end month. MIND YOU, THIS IS THE ONLY SITE THAT WILL PAY YOUR ARREARS EVEN AFTER YOUR ACCOUNTS ARE CLOSED!!! THEY CLOSED MINE AND i CAME IN AGAIN A DIFFERENT WAY AND MARK YOU YOU CAN LOG IN EVEN UP TO 3 MONTHS AFTER YOU QUIT FOR YOUR ARREARS TO BE FULLY PAID. i DONT THINK ANY OF YOU EVER WORKED FOR UVOCORP, YOU ARE JUST MALICIOUS

can anyone please tell me if they can access uvocorp website? i have done alot of work for them and suddenly i cannot find them, and they have not paid me a cent. am afraid i have been scammed

  • hello8/30/2009

Hi che2. Uvocorp does pay, but after 2 months, 5 months or 8 months. You can bid for orders but you will not be assigned one. It is just like waiting for nothing. Accessing its site, logging in, bidding, following up if the order is approved day after day eat up time. Then, getting no orders, it's a big waste of your time.

  • Petre7/17/2009

Uvocorp sucks. If you are a writer, have you noticed the spelling, "avaviable orders". This company must be run by people who did not even reach the high school level. Many messages have wrong grammars and typo errors. And at times, they uvocorp does not pay the writers well. Better forget getting the service of uvocorp. Really good writers avoid this site. Uvocorp then has to contend with poor quality writers. Many of its writers already stopped writing for it, since they were also scammed of the money they have worked hard for. Think a thousand times if you want to write for it or if you are a student, to get its service.

  • Trixie7/17/2009

Uvocorp is a cheater of its writers. It has a new way of stealing money from the writers. It will hold the amount due to writers and after sometime, the amount will simply disappear. Now, I know that Uvocorp is really an illegitimate scammer of customers and writers. What a fool I am to have trusted this company. So, students out there, beware of this company and avoid dealing with UVOCORP.
