Another Pittsburgh Pirates Trade, Goodbye Nate Mclouth

Pittsburgh Fans, Meatloaf Said it Best, Two Out of Three Aint Bad

Pittsburgh fans I believe Meatloaf said it best when he sang, "Two Out of Three Aint Bad." The good news for Pittsburgh, they have the Steelers and Penguins, the bad news, they're also home of the Pirates. Pirates fans haven't had much to cheer about in almost two decades. At the end of this season, the Pirates will finish their 17th straight losing season. If the bad record isn't enough, once again, the Pirates have traded away a young, productive, popular player, this time, Nate Mclouth.

Last year Pittsburgh traded Xavier Nady and Jason Bay. Now with this years trade, the Pirates are quickly resembling a AAA ball club, it's no wonder they have the lowest attendance in the majors. With Mclouth being traded after signing a three year deal just this year, no player on the Pirates roster can feel safe. For the few Pirates fans out there, I'd hold off buying any new player jersey's for awhile.

In the Pirates defense, they do have outfielder Andrew McCutchen, from triple A, playing well and ready to step into Mclouth's spot. That being said, McCutchen and Mclouth could have played together in the outfield. In trading away Mclouth, the Pirates traded their leader in homeruns and RBI's. They also traded a good guy who seemed happy to be in Pittsburgh. For Mclouth, the Pirates received three minor league players from the Braves.

I don't understand the Pirates management, even if your team is struggling, your fans will stick by you if they have someone to root for. While the Pirates trade away star players, fans are left to wonder why they should keep investing time and money in a team that is repeatedly dismantled. You almost hope your favorite Pirate player doesn't play too well, for fear he too will be shipped away.

Pirates fans deserve a lot of credit for remaining loyal to the team, in fact I hope my next relationship is with a Pirates fan; a man with that kind of loyalty would be a keeper.

The pirate organization is a joke. If ever a team should be contracted it is the Pirates. I'm tired of supporting this AAA mess posing as a major league team. How many more decades are we going to be rebuilding?
