The waves of gold,
Bow to the wind,
Under leaden skies,
As another summer dies.
Bow to the wind,
Under leaden skies,
As another summer dies.
Notes: This was probably written looking over a cornfield at the end of summer. But, hey, 1980 is a long time ago, so who knows! Death and loss did seem to be a common theme of my work when I was 19 and 20, but I did write some humorous stuff, so will put that up sometime. I thought I'd put this online before the end of summer. Would be a bit evil to put this on AC just before another autumn or winter - as they've both been grim enough! - P.R.

Post a CommentI love this, but I think you need to make it longer--maybe turn it into a song--it has a nice rhythm to it.
I really like this one - reminds me of my childhood & summers spent at the beach - always hated to see them slip by.
Did I already comment on this one? Well, it's a great poem. :)
Yes, I loved the imagery too.

I know summers are short in the UK but reading the title I thought is this one over before it began!

Fantastic. Love the words "leaden skies." Oppresive..just how I feel this winter..Oppressed by nature.
