Another Twist in the Anna Nicole Smith Saga

The tumultuous saga of Anna Nicole Smith continues and grows even stranger. Monday, splashed across the front page of the Tribune of Nassau were two photographs of Smith in a romantic embrace with immigration minister D. Shane Gibson, who granted Smith permanent residency in the Bahamas last year. Smith, who died Thursday in Florida, claimed on her application that she owned the waterfront home in which she was living. That ownership is being challenged by a businessperson who says Smith never paid for the home. Lawyers for Smith say the home was a gift. Separately, Prince Frederic von Anhalt the husband of Zsa Zsa Gabor claims to have had a decade-long affair with Smith. Anhalt told the AP he plans to file a paternity challenge in court this week to gain custody of Smith's infant daughter.

Gibson was in the hot seat last year from the political opposition, which accused him of giving Smith preferential treatment. His office phone was not answered, but opposition leader Hubert Ingraham told the AP that he was "making inquiries."

Virgie Arthur, Smith's estranged mother is the newest among players now in the Bahamas, and she has been trying to see her granddaughter, Dannielynn. Arthur says she does not believe Howard K. Stern is the father of the 5-month-old girl.

Arthur told ABC's Good Morning America that she believes freelance journalist Larry Birkhead is Dannielynn's father, "I don't have a problem with her being with Larry Birkhead. I have a problem with her being with Howard Stern."

Over the weekend, Stern told Entertainment Tonight that he would never allow Arthur to see Dannielynn. Stern and the baby are currently in the Bahamas home he shared with Smith.

"I don't want possession of her. I want to know that she's in a safe place," Arthur tells GMA. "I had a daughter and I had a grandson, and (Stern) was there when both died. Now I only have a granddaughter. He has her, and I'm afraid for her."

Arthur also says she is not interested in the money Dannielynn may inherit. "If Howard wants the money, he can have the money. Just give us the baby."
