The Truth Behind Tom Cruise, the intriguing article by associated content author Joxe Arkaitz, raises some interesting questions about the recently much criticized A-list action-adventure actor. Tom Cruise has consistantly delivered a quality movie for the audience, either as an actor or as an actor and co-producer. So what happened to cause Tom Cruise to have criticism heaped on him by commentators in the broadcast, print and Internet spectrum?
Tom Cruise was contractually commited to promote Mission Impossible III around the world. That requires the cooperation of the various media. Every television interview show hostess competes to be the first one to ask "So tell us about your latest project." The various audiences are very interested in the loves found and lost of the Hollywood celebrities also and are eager to hear about that straight from the participants.
These realities make-up the structure of author Joxe Arkaitz's article The Truth Behind Tom Cruise.www.associatedcontent.com/article/60861/the_truth_behind_tom_cruise.html
When is "Publicity", "Spinned" and the result becomes "Lies?" If a 42 year-old man jumps up-and-down on a coach professing his latest love on the most popular television show in the country that is certainly comment worthy, but as the story is told and retold a simple declaration becomes a sign of instability for some correspondents. What ever happened to viewing such goings-on as a humorous "Showbiz" incident and leave it at that? Why does everything Tom Cruise does have to be blown out of proportion? All those publicity stories are generated to promote his latest movie, advertising that the audience gets to read without buying a newspaper or a magazine.
Some serious issues were raised though with the incident concerning the actress Brooke Shields experiencing depression after the birth of her baby and the course of treatment that her doctor decided to follow. The exchange in the media between Brooke Shields and Tom Cruise served to educate the various audiences on the pluses and minuses of the pharmaceutical treatment of depression.
Tom Cruise was criticized for bringing the subject up and ridiculed because of his Scientology beliefs that do not accept psychological causes for "mental conditions." This is one area of the promotional campaign for Mission Impossible III that got out of hand, and the situation of the broadcast, print and Internet media's reaction to the story grew beyond any damage control humanly possible. For the media this was as good as it gets, the highest-profile actor in hollywood versus the ingenue grown-up that all America loves in intellectual combat from television studios from coast-to-coast.
This was the supposed reason for Tom Cruise's movie studio, Paramount Pictures (and business partner) severing their two-decade long relationship. The studio and Tom Cruises production company had been discussing their relationship for several months, this just gave Paramount a rationale for what they were going to do anyway. (But, as in matters of the heart the break-up may not be for all eternity, they may end-up working together again in the future-It's all about the Benjamins- that would make a good title for a movie, I'll have my assistant make a note of that.)
As for Tom Cruise's UltraSound Adventure (this is not a horror film title!): Tom Cruise was rumored to have purchased an UltraSound Imaging Machine to film his daughter to be, Suri, in utreo. California State Assemblyman Ted Lieu, D-Torrance had Assembly Bill 2360 passed to outlaw the ownership of ultrasound machines by the citizens of California. Governor Arnold S+13 wisely vetoed that bill, thus it never became law. After all, if ultrasound machines are outlawed, only outlaws will have them.
As for Scientology, Tom Cruise has completed all the course work and risen in stature in the church. As the church does not make the complete publication and release of it's materials available to the public, that could be the reason that it is shrouded in mystery and viewed skeptically by a lot of people in the media, and that always makes for a good story.
