Another Way to Survive Unemployment

Unemployment May Lead You to a Career Working at Home

When I found myself, a middle class mother of three, unemployed I thought nothing of it. I would send out some resumes and call some friends and I would have a job in a couple of weeks. Well three weeks later I was still without a job and beginning to worry. The bills were falling behind and I couldn't just take any job because I had to make enough to pay for daycare for two kids. My days and nights were spent on various websites applying for any job that I thought I had a chance a getting. I was afraid to leave the phone or my computer for fear of missing a call from a potential employer.

Unemployment had begun to take a toll on my family. Every conversation my husband and I had would be about money. Bill collectors were calling and all I could tell them was I did not have the money to pay them. They became more and more persistent, but what can you do if you don't have the money then you can't pay them. They began to get rude and would call all day everyday. This just contributed to the extra stress. I found myself getting frustrated with my kids and just wanting to sleep all day. I was becoming more and more depressed. One day while I was visiting a parenting message board I stumbled across some information that made the pain of being unemployed a little easier to live with. It was a link to various work at home jobs.

These jobs were legitimate and most important I did not have to pay anything to find out the information. Some of the positions were offered by fortune 500 companies. They offered a steady pay check and I did not have the expense of placing my kids in daycare. There was time involved in researching the companies, but it was well worth it in the end. The opportunities are endless. To make sure you start out on the right foot with your work at home job follow the suggestions below.

1. If it says opportunity, there is probably a monetary investment. Work at home JOBS are free. You should not have to pay for training materials or any type of documents.

2. Check with the BBB and the Attorney General's office. See if there are any complaints filed against the company. You do not want to work for a company that has a reputation for not paying its employees.

3. Do a web search for message boards and chatrooms for work at home jobs. You can find very useful information here. Many times you can find current or former employees of the company you are researching. Ask them what they think of the company.

Work at home jobs are not a way to get rich, but they helped my family tread water while I was unemployed. Many people find that work at home jobs allow them freedom that they could not have otherwise. They do not have to endure a morning commute, or spend thousands of dollars on a career wardrobe. Some continue to work at home part time when they return to their outside job to prepare just incase they become unemployed again. While I have chosen to return to the outside work force I know a few who chosen to continue working from the comfort of their home.
