Answering Questions in a Politically Correct World

How Can an Anwer Be Wrong?

Candace
There has been a lot of buzz today about the 2009 Miss USA pageant, specifically about Miss California's answer to the interview question. She was asked (and I paraphrase) if all states should allow gay marriage, and answered the she personally felt that marriage should be between a man and a woman, what she called opposite marriage.

My issue with the coverage is that some are saying she answered the question wrong. That the more politically correct answer would have been that states should be able to choose.

What I am wondering is when did it become wrong to express one's opinion when asked a direct question? While I don't agree with her answer I admire her for standing up in front of the world and stating what is quickly becoming an unpopular point of view.

I think this is my problem with watching political debates. The answers to questions are worded in such a way that you have to go back and translate what they say. People spend so much time avoiding saying what they think you don't want to hear that you don't get to know their real opinion.
