Antarctica Showing Significant Cooling with Ice Expansion

Raj
Last month, a few in the American media were reporting that ice is melting in Antarctica. Evidence of this was seen in west Antarctica. But not much attention has been given to last week's significant report that Ice is expanding big time in east Antarctica.

East Antarctica is four times the size of west Antarctica. A discovery this month found that east Antarctica has been showing what the scientists call as "significant cooling in recent decades". A report prepared for last week's meeting of Antarctic Treaty nations (held in Washington) went on to note that the South Pole had shown "significant cooling in recent decades."

According to the newspaper "The Australian", Ian Allison, the head of Australian Antarctic division glaciology program is convinced that the sea ice losses in west Antarctica over the past 30 years has been more than offset by increases in Ross Sea region, just one sector of east Antarctica

Further, ice core drilling in East Antarctica's Davis station by "Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Co-Operative Research Centre" has shown that the ice had a maximum thickness of 1.89m last year , which statistically is the densest thickness in 10 years and much above the average thickness since 1950s of 1.67m.

These findings reinforce the statements made by Dr. Jay Lehr, a senior fellow and scientific director of the Heartland Institute and an expert on environmental policy, who back in January 2009 told CNN:

"[I] think more importantly it is to look at the sun's output, and in recent years, we've seen very, very low sunspot activity, and we are definitely - in my mind - not only in a cooling period, we're going to be staying in it for a couple decades,"

"It just seems silly to not recognize that the earth's climate is driven by the sun. Your Chad Myers about a month ago pointed out its really arrogant for mankind to think he controls the climate or the universe. Only 4 percent of our greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide. Ninety percent is water vapor which we have no impact over."

As noted by Jay Lehr, Chad Myers, an American Meteorological society certified Meteorologist (and also is CNN's own meteorologist), told CNN's Lou Dobbs on Dec 18th 2008

"You know, to think that we could affect weather all that much is pretty arrogant"

Many scientists in the recent years have also said the exact same thing that the earth's climate is indeed driven 99% by the sun's output and sun spots.

Hopefully President Obama and his congress would read the scientific findings in this regard before enforcing extremely harmful economic policies in the name of "global warming"- which in reality is not controlled by us, but by the sun, its output and the sun spots.

Hopefully President Obama and his congress will not end up thinking that they can control the sun, its output and the sun spots with their "Cap and Trade" and "Carbon Tax" policies. Hopefully we, the people of USA don't end up footing the bill for these policies, which will have no impact on the sun and its output.
